What do your paddles look like?

Our holiday party is on Dec. 6, and among other things, that's when the new pledge class present their big sisters with their paddles.

My little asked me what kind I wanted, and while we're technically not supposed to have tradition paddles (b/c they historically represent hazing) I'm going to have a traditional one with the handle being carved out of our symbols.

Back when I was still pledging and fantasizing about all things sister-related, I knew I didn't want the girly "shaped" paddles but I was thinking up elaborate things like having an angel cutout with a little bell in it (like "It's a Wonderful Life").

What do your Pi Phi paddles look like?

We don't present paddles to our big sisters, but at our pledge retreat we make these things that are sort of a cross between paddles and plaques.

If you follow this link:

We use Number 6.

We just have the traditional paddles. It's kind of a campus wide tradition actually...all the houses get the traditional paddles.

I think it's interesting that you do your paddles at your christmas party also!

Jess

I gave my big a paddle shaped like an arrow. It made it not so traditional, yet not girly either. Just a suggestion

We give Bigs paddles shaped like an arrow. Other paddles such as; 21yr, twins, etc, are the "traditional" ones

At initiation we give our little sisters their arrow paddles, which are all the same size, just covered in the fabric we used to make their other gifts (themed to match their bedspreads and bedrooms) and then put Big Sis, Lil Sis, our names, etc.

Then at Christmastime, at our holiday party, the Bigs are presented with their real paddles. I finally got mine and I was so excited, I almost passed out! It has a Pi Beta Phi in symbols going down as the handle. It's a traditional one, but with the cute handle and the outside and letters are painted pink. And my little even painted the little angel's hair black, like mine!

Our little sisters make us our paddles. I was looking at one of the online greek stores though and I saw that they had paddles that were all painted with letters and the symbol from your chapter>
