Insurance Provider

We are a local fraternity in texas wishing to get established. One thing that hinders this process is our lack of insurance. We have had the hardest time looking for a provider that may cater to our small size. Million dollar policies just too expensive for our two chapters. Any ideas of help to get around this or a smaller risk management policy or something?

Very few insurance companies insure greek letter organizations...most policies are based on membership (you pay a per-member fee).

You can do 1 of 2 things:
1) Contact a local insurance agency & see if they'll do it or get recommendations.
2) Contact HRH Kirklin http://www.kirklin.com/ & get a quote. It can't hurt to check it out.

Many universities require at least $1 million policy (not sure if yours does), so it may be a good thing to get that level of insurance eventually.

Good luck!

This semester (Fall 2008), we started an insurance policy. Previously we would just pick up very general liability insurance for individual events; but for many schools, that just does not cut it anymore. We went with HRH/Kirklin (which just changed their name to Willis HRH) and their minimum policy is $1,000,000.

I have to say that I'm a bit surprised at the universities that are actually requiring $2 million policies. My sorority has one (fortunately), but it seems that smaller organizations are increasingly facing challenges that may prove insurmountable.

If I am not mistaken, that is often "$2 million stacked" where you have both property and personal liability coverage of $1 million each. This is pretty confusing to laypeople...but I used to work in the insurance industry. That's why you have to ask for everything from both the school and your agent in writing.
