Question about University of Alabama Greek Life

I graduated from a campus with a much smaller greek life located the Midwest, so the greek life in the South is definitely different, at least from observation and hearing through the grapevine. It's practically infamous, if not legendary, when it comes to comparing regional greek life to another, especially in Alabama.

Is it true that alumni have control over recruitment, as in any questionable recruit will be brought to the attention of a chapter adviser, and that alumnae will put pressure on the officers to either reject or offer a bid? According to one Alabama fraternity member, GLOs can sometimes be run as a private business depending on how much the alumni are involved.

I ask this because of the racial scandal in 2013 (The Crimson White article) and the recent, somewhat controversial Alpha Phi recruitment video (people have said there's no racial diversity amongst the women pictured in the video).

I went to a midwestern school with a small greek life, too, and I've wondered the same thing.

I think campus culture might play a role, also.

You're not from there so you're not allowed to ask questions, comment or even think about it.

Once again, 33, you have no clue. They were on campus from 1932 to 1963 so they could have alums who are 80 years old. Do your research, sweet pea.

So, what you're saying Titchou, is that they do have 80 year old alumnae telling them to take blond white women?

Yeah, I was trying to stick up for them in the face of rather silly questions, but whatever...

This shows you didn't even bother to check if they had been there before to know whether they COULD have 80 year old alums. I'm not an Alpha Phi so I have no idea which alums tell them anything. I just know your statement was incorrect.
