All the local gas stations either (a) ran out of gas entirely, (b) ran out of regular gas but still had premium (generators only take regular gas), (c) lost power and hence the gas pumps wouldn't work, or (d) had lines several blocks long.
My stepdad kept telling me before Sandy rolled through, "Make sure to fill your gas tank!" After it hit, I understood why. We weren't even in an area that was hit bad, but for weeks there was a huge shortage of gas and lines that guaranteed at least 2 hour long wait times.

Interesting. You're right about the crazy. That probably explains why the timing is so badly off. Either mom was researching this during her daughter's sophomore year in HS, or DD (cringe) isn't quite as bright as she's been described - she should have graduated from college by now.

I'm now convinced that the person that coined the phrase "sleep like a baby" was never around a newborn. This whole mixing up of days and nights on top of a long witching hour is for the birds. It gets better right?!

Yes, it gets better. In your later years you will realize that the time raising your children was one of the best parts of your life. Enjoy. Although I will add a caveat that I was not really much of a baby person and probably didn't enjoy the baby phase nearly as much as when my kids got their own personality and could talk.

Why does an establishment where you might use a golf pencil (church, library, putt-putt and regular golf courses) ALWAYS have new ones available, never shorter but sharpened older ones?

If I have moderately used, sharpened, and returned a golf pencil the next day the area to which I return it has ALL NEW golf pencils.

Where is the home for used golf pencils? Is it overcrowded?

Earlier tonight, my boyfriend and I walked into a bar and saw a huge table that was surrounded by people and covered with American flags. Balloons decorated with the stars and stripes were tied to at least a dozen chairs. I thought maybe there was a soccer game going on, especially when the whole bar later started chanting, "U S A! U S A!" We then learned that it was a surprise party for someone who became an American citizen today. #USA

This- 100% this. I was never a newborn person either. I never longed for going through that stage again like some people do.

Just in case cheerfulgreek stops by, "GO BLUE!!!"

I predict that Knight_shadow and I will be Hailing the Victors today, and Sparty will have a sad bus trip back to the Banks of the Red Cedar.

ETA: I really hope cheerfulgreek DOESN'T stop by. After the game, Coach Dantonio specifically said they'd be having the best bus ride back ever. Ugh.

Thrilled that our high school marching band and color guard swept the awards for their division at today's competition! First in auxiliary (color guard), first in percussion and first in band. We're a small group but this was our first week of competition and they were on fire...literally it was 94 today.
Everyone stayed hydrated and no one fainted!

Amazed that my son and I were able to drag ourselves there after watching Coldplay at the Rose Bowl last night. (Hubby and daughter chose to stay home today.) Wimps! LOL

I'm so glad I don't have to deal with the heat that both the south and California gets. I can manage it fine, but my band would have issues.

This morning, for the first time since I moved to New Orleans a couple of months ago, I stepped out of my apartment building, and immediately thought, "FUCK! IT'S COLD!"

It was maybe 65 degrees.

Did my blood really get that thin that quickly??
