You could have pursued engineering but your side hustle made you so much money, you really didn't have to. A different door opened up and you had the smarts to start your own business. I don't see that as a bad thing--pretty damn good if you ask me.

That's not how it went. I did have a career going as an engineer, but I got laid off. I had to make some money from somewhere and since I had been doing landscaping jobs since I was in high school, I started making money doing in and out little jobs with what I had. I started making loot, so I decided to keep it going. If I didn't get laid off, I'd probably still be working as an engineer.

Then, like StealthMode said, your situation is different. You could have potentially gotten another engineering job. You still can if you gave a darn.

Pretty much. I'm just tripped out at how a lot of folks today, compared to back in the day, study one thing, and end up doing another.

That isn't that different than back in the day. It isn't a new phenomenon.

I feel you, lightweight. I wouldn't say it's all new, but it just seems more common now than it once was. Folks will work one place to get them through school, but once they graduate, they find that they can't find a job in that field, so then end up staying where they are, or end up doing something totally off the wall from what they went to school for.

To the people who are taking my job. Please stop playing games. Just give me my six month severance package.
To myself, keep calm and carry on it's only two more weeks.

I wish my boss would change surgery days to Wednesdays and Fridays. I would just love to get done this early on a Friday so I can start the weekend early. I'm all done for the day, but it's still only Tuesday.

I've had a craptastic day. The guys we hired that came highly recommended screwed our floors up. We were putting in vinyl plank, and they used the wrong kind of primer. Well.... the vinyl plank that we had bought is out of stock and they will not be reordering it. We had to go to five different Lowe's to get enough to do it in the first place. So it looks like we are going to have to purchase wood. I feel sick. I've already paid $1000 for the plank... I really feel like I could vomit right now. And I have my final tonight. Joy, joy, joy.

^^^ sorry
My personal hell is that as my divorce comes closer, the lightbulb is finally coming on for my husband that he's going to have to pony up some cash. We've been living together through this process and so far, no issues (except that he's an alcoholic and no longer trying to hide it). But now, I have nearly 3 weeks left and it's going to be tough getting through.
On a more positive note, a friend is flying from KC to Orange County and we're going to do it Thelma & Louise style to get me back to the good old Midwest. 1 night Las Vegas, 2 nights Sedona/Grand Canyon, 1 night Albuquerque, 1 night OKC, then bunking with her family for hopefully just one week and then settling into my own place. The new job starts December 1st.

DubaiSis,
Even though I do not know you other than Alpha Xi affiliation and your situation sounds complicated, I wish you all positive vibes and strengths for the next three weeks. Positive Hugs.

Thanks. It's definitely complicated. But if I can get through the next 3 weeks, I'm good to go. I will be giving my notice at work tomorrow. I don't know if they will accept my 2 weeks notice or boot me right away. I'm ok with either solution. 1 week would probably be better.

My last day at work is tomorrow. It's bittersweet, but I'm thrilled to share I accepted a new job this afternoon and start a week from tomorrow. Haven't really taken any vacation time in well over a year due to DH's layoff, so plan to spend the time off taking care of myself and maybe doing a darned good fall housecleaning.

Just got a report that someone in my community is throwing water balloons out the window onto the street...college kids are dumb. And it's not like I can use my RA X-ray vision to see through peoples' doors and figure out who's doing it, but it's still my job to stop them. Dumb dumb dumb.
