How do you REALLY know what Sorority is best one to pledge?

Do / did you compare your own values to the values and objectives of the GLO?

Do / did you consider your personality traits, and how you would fit in with the current members?

Are things such as your hobbies, extra-curricular activities, likes and dislikes important?
and:
If the GLO has "free-standing undergrad chapters" (like a lot of the GLOs in the NYC area.) How do you select the chapter that is right for you, or rather, chapter that you are right for?

Well for me, it was about researched the the sororities that were on my campus, looked especially at their philanthropies, and got a pretty good picture that way.

I also didn't go through recruitment till I was a sophomore, so I saw how the girls were not just during the weeks before and during recruitment. I saw them at parties, in class, etc. That swayed my decision a LOT.

This depends on what is most important to you. Some choose an organization because they admire and are inspired by their legacy as a whole (mission, service, values, history) and for some, fitting in with the members on their campus and how they present themselves and represent their organizations are most important. However, if looking into an NPHC organization, consider that you will not be joining just the chapter but the whole organization and membership extends long beyond college.

Oh and what's a "free standing undergrad chapter"? That's a new one for me.

I think she's interested in NPHC sororities.

I took that to mean a city-wide undergrad chapter, one that is not attached to a particular campus.

Didn't you say that one particular sorority helped you get into college? If so, I'm sure that organization is close to your heart, for good reason. All of the NPHCs (there are 4) have something interesting about them for you to check out, but just look at what they have to offer. I know philanthropy was a big deal to me. I saw what my sorority did for my philanthropy and I decided that I really loved what they stood for.

Good Luck!

I have no idea what a "free-standing undergrad chapter" is. Do you mean city-wide? Citywide chapters are not really "freestanding," per se. Citywide chapters do include specific schools in their charter.

You don't just pick a chapter to join in the way you're making it seem...

Are you talking about city-wide chapters (which are common in large urban centers like NYC)?

There is no such thing as a freestanding chapter, whether it is collegiate or graduate. Every collegiate chapter is affiliated with and supported by the national organization, regional/district branch, and local graduate chapter.

Right, at best "she" is a high school student, who doesn't need to concern herself too much with these things as of yet; at worst, she is a really bad troll.

Either way, I am mad at you and starang for responding to the "Ivy" news. lol.
