Requesting Initiation

Why do we request permission to initiate (besides because it is required)? Is this necessary?

Here is the applicable Code:
Code VI-12. Official Authorization Required to Initiate. No Chapter or any other group now authorized or to be authorized to perform initiations, shall be free to proceed with an initiation, even if in all other respects it is fully authorized, unless first it shall have obtained from the Office of Administration a written or telegraphic Authorization to Initiate bearing the signature of the Executive Vice President or the ranking officer in the Office of Administration and attesting to the fact that the candidate’s General Fraternity Associate Member and Initiation Fees have been received by the Office of Administration.[/font]

Shane: It's a wild guess on my part (and I leave the historical stuff to Brothers Raymond, Hren, Earp et al), but I'd think it has to do w/the underground group scene. Like I said, just a guess--

Bill, I am with you on this.

Undergrounds while they may mean well can cause International and all of us problems if they are using anything that refers to LXA or inference to the same.

If something happens the the fit hits the shan, so to speak!

There has to be rules and regulations in place to govern how we as LXA are run and in working order.

Yeah, I think they're right.

Kinda like when you apply for a business license.

You can't do anything unless the government receives your application AND your money and grants you approval.

I just wonder if there is more behind Brother Shane's question?

As GammaZeta said, it is like getting a license to be a LXA which comes with the money to do it through fees. This way it is controlled and registered for the fact that they are true Brothers. Is it a Catch 22, maybe.

True, money is the life blood of any organization. But I am not saying The Brother Hood is not one of the most important parts!
