Community College & Grades

I was just wondering but, this past year was my first year in college and I attended a community college. Due to my ACT score, I had to take developmental classes my first semester. Because of this, my first semesters classes did not count but I just finished my 2nd semester (which counted) and I recieved a 3.286. Eventhough I will be going into my second year in college, I am technically a Freshman credit wise. Will this situation play any kind of factor when going through rush? and will they concentrate more of my college GPA then high school? thanks!

At my school, UF they would only see your college GPA unless you had a rec and your hs gpa was on it. But also at my school you wouldnt get cut with a 3.2, the highest gpa you have to have as a transfer student or student with a college gpa is a 3.0 and that is only for one chapter.....also if they see you are a freshman by credits...just go with that you are a freshman! GOOD LUCK!

Your GPA is fine -- I can't think of any group who would worry if you have over a 3.0, not even the most picky ones.

As for your credit hours, this will actually work in your favor. If you have four more years there (or even just three and a half) you're still basically a freshman in terms of how many years you'll be at school, and since sororities prefer freshman to upperclassmen because they'll be there longer, you have a couple of advantages:

1) You have more experience in college than your average freshman, so you already know how to balance school with other activities
2) But you also have more years left to be in your sorority than the average sophomore who rushes!

So make sure you let the sorority women know that while you are a transfer student, you're still a freshman when it comes to credits -- that will definitely be a point in your favor.
