Rec Pics

Hey guys
I am getting recommendations from the local alumnae. I know I am suppose to send photos but I'm wondering whats appropriate. I know not to send prom pictures or any pictures that could make you look bad. Would I send a picture that I have on Facebook? I'm not so sure whats appropriate.

If you still look like you did when you had your senior pics done then those would be appropriate. No graduation cap/tassle, though!

Basically, chest up that shows your face well.** No props- that means pets, pom-poms, hats, trapeze swings (yep, got one of those right now...). Do your hair and make up like you would wear them for recruitment, so you are correct that prom pics are not the best. On the other side, though, do not send a pic that you took out at the pool/lake. (yep, got one of those right now too...) A cute sundress or shirt/skirt combo works well for the photo.

Clothes should be flattering to your body type and coloring. Double check the neck line so that you aren't known as Boob Girl.

So, to answer your question, if a facebook pic meets the above criteria, then yes, send it in. just make sure that the pic is just of you and not of you with other people.

**Some schools also like a full body shot. It never hurts to include several different pics. Your rec writer can then send on the one(s) that are most appropriate.

Bear in mind the purpose of the photo - after seeing the picture the members should be able to know what you look like. Yes, it should be flattering, but it MUST LOOK LIKE YOU WILL LOOK when you show up at their house.

Should the pictures be wallet size or regular sized?

something smaller than a 5 x 7: a wallet would work, but no larger than a 3 x 5.
