I've been thinking about the OP questions. I think there should be integration. The big question is the methodology of that integration. I don't know how it should be done because I do not know how the culture of other schools are. However, ultimately, integration should be done not because somebody is trying to make a message. Instead, it should be done because both groups are willing to accept each other so they can developed each other into a better organization and man. It's all about bettering onself, that is why I joined my fraternity.

Determine criteria for your specific chapter (i.e. 3.0 GPA, involvement in 2 campus orgs, etc), and recruit based upon those criteria. And if those criteria result in your chapter having 20 pledges all from one location, then so be it. If all of them are white, then so be it. If all of them are black, then so be it. If they're all from out of state, then so be it.

Take the best individuals based upon your criteria and that should be the end of the discussion. If people don't like it, then they can go to hell.

My personal opinion is that if you're in a historically white GLO and you bid a minority simply to have one in your chapter, you're hurting your chapter and potentially that individual. Likewise, if there's a minority with a 3.5, is involved in several campus orgs, and is an extremely intelligent person and exemplifies the values of your GLO and you don't bid him/her, why not? If they were white you'd probably give them a bid.

Quit looking at the color of one's skin, and likewise, quit using your skin color as a crutch. I know it's easier said than done, but do your best. If these sentiments have been repeated in the last 50 pages, then I apologize for the repeat. Good luck with finals.

Before someone else gives their two cents, please read this entire thread and see if it bears any comment other than

It needs to stay dead and buried

These are social groups. You don't force membership onto social groups. It negates the point.

Lord have mercy, I am so shaking my head at this.
