How To Make A Local Even Better?
I am a member of a local fraternity, Delta Alpha Chi, started about 5 years ago. We have seen incredible growth as of late with pledge classes of 9 in the fall and spring. While this is sizable for a small school (840 undergrad males); last fall IFC had 90 guys rush (72 pledged) and The unique opportunity with DAX is that we are a non-traditional fraternity that allows IFC members to join. We are a service oriented fraternity that is based on Christian values, however we do not restrict membership based on religion, race, orientation, etc. Our weakness is without a national organization to help and incredibly low dues ($30-$60/ semester), we are at financial disadvantage to the traditional fraternities. What advice do you have to attach more members and grow?

What is the average chapter size for the IFCs on your campus? Also what sort of financial disadvantage are you in exactly?

approx. 83 and 42 and their dues range from $450-$700. We also don't have prominent alums.

Lets try that again. On average, how many people does each IFC have. And why exactly do you feel the need to compete with them if you fill a different niche?

There are two fraternities, and I was asking how to make our organization better, I think we can complement each other

Have you looked at going national? This would definitely improve your standing and put you on equal footing with the other IFC chapters.

I don't get it. You said that you accept members from other fraternities, yet you want to compete against them. Or did I read that wrong?

The unique opportunity with DAX is that we are a non-traditional fraternity that allows IFC members to join.

That might not be a good idea since, as moe.ron pointed out, they accept members from other IFC chapters.

This is almost too inclusive. I mean, that's fine and all.... but organizations like this should be attached to some sort of department at school. Like APO would be affiliated with the community service office, and Phi Mu Alpha might have an affinity with the music department. If DAX was more "Christian" you could be affiliated with Campus Ministry and find guys who were interested in a uniquely Christian brotherhood.
I dunno, this is a tough one. I say just be content with being small so long as you're not in danger of dying out. And make sure you local has an alumni association so that in the event something does happen to the chapter, the spirit of the org will still live.
