Help with sorority recruitment!
Hello everyone! As indicated by my username, I have absolutely no idea what to expect during recruitment! I'm attending IU in the fall and I have my heart set on becoming Greek! However, I am pretty clueless because none of my relatives are Greek. I know that because IU's recruitment is so competitive, reccomendations are neccessary and I only know a couple alumnae. How would I go about getting recs? Should I contact local alumnae from my area (none would be IU alums)? And if so, how should I go about contacting them? Or is there a better way of getting reccomendations? As you can see, I'm in serious need of some guidance! Any help would be much appreciated because becoming Greek is something very important to me. Thanks so much everyone!

Welcome.
Lots of the answers you seek can be found in the Sorority Recruitment forums. Please read the threads when you have time. Good luck.

I am a graduate of Indiana University. Read the threads specifically about IU in addition to the recruitment threads, since it is the only campus in the country with bed rush now. If after you've read some of the threads about recruitment at IU, you have questions, feel free to PM me. Go Hoosiers! :-)

BTW It's easier to search Greekchat using your browser than the built in search.

Consider IndianaSigKap your goddess of love and light. She'll be able to provide you a world of information. And she might clarify but I'd say since they have winter rush, it will be extremely important for you to 1-keep your grades stellar, 2-keep your reputation stellar and 3-get involved in on-campus activities. Do something that you are authentically interested in and hopefully there will be sorority women there you can meet and naturally become friends with. You will need to consider yourself in rush mode all first semester so I would resist the urge to go to class looking like something the cat dragged in, or get sucked into negative situations that others can observe. You never know who's within ear-shot so be careful about getting into conversations where someone is speaking ill of ANY sororities on campus.
And do remember that although it is very competitive, it's also growing now with an unhoused option on the ground and one coming this winter, unless that schedule has changed. Keep your options open and be willing to take a less traditional path and with a little luck you'll get what you want!
When it gets a little closer to the time, we might be able to provide you with some strategies into ranking your preferences. But in short, you'll want to include some realism in your choices, not just your dreams. There is discussion about this in some of the threads. And as MaryPoppins said, Google works better to search than the internal search function, which I've never been able to successfully use to find so much as my own posts.
I can't say go Hoosiers, but I will say Go Big 10!

Excellent, succinct advice for PNMs on any campus with deferred recruitment...I'll share with my daughter for next fall.

Keep an open mind.
Keep an open mind.
Keep an open mind.
Don't listen to people who refuse to do the same.
