Question about history
Well, I was bored, and was doing some digging around on the websites and whatnot, and I found that there used to be a few chapters of some GLOs on my campus, but they were all removed from recongization status for whatever reasons. My question is this, I am insanely curious, and I was wondering if it was at all possible for me to find out what reasons they were de-recongized (if that's the correct term) for? I remember all the hoopla a few years ago when a chapter was de-recongized for not making the grades and whatnot, but I don't remember which GLO it was.
Some answers would be awesome! =)

One of the ways to find things out like that is to look in back issues of your school's newspaper online & see if there are any stories on it. Other than that, the national HQs most likely won't tell you.

And in some instances (I have found) they won't have any information to tell you..........

What school? Some schools have shut down their systems and yours may be one of them.

Excellent point.
Try the schools web site and see if the chapter is still there.
If not, check with your HQ and see what they say.
As you are not a member of any of those Sororities, then the School archives are the best to check.
Did you have friends that you keep in touch with? Another Ave.

It's a school in Texas. I had searched the student orgs website to look at the list of Greeks, and they had one article where the international fraternity council announced that they were no longer recongizing some fraternities on campus, but offered no more information other than that.
I don't have any friends that are Greek other than two APOs. (Alpha Phi Omega and Alpha Psi Omega), and both are active. I'll try searching the back issues on the university newspaper, maybe I can uncover some more information.
Thanks! I love nosing around in old history (even if it's somewhat recent) and find out information. =)

On your school's website I did a search using the term "fraternities" and a ton of stuff came up that may indicate why groups on your campus would have been suspended and lose their recognition from the campus administration.
You might also ask someone involved with student government.

Perhaps... I can ask someone who USED to be in the student government. She might have more information than I do at the present moment, so it can't hurt to try. Thanks! =)

hey, we go to the same school! the ones that are listed on the IFC website as not being recognized are the fraternities that have been kicked off campus, but are either still recognized by their national organization or just a rogue chapter, who are still recruiting and acting as a chapter. there've been a ton more kicked off in the last five years than on that list.

Sing it! Our first three chapters were closed because the greek systems were closed.

Am I missing something here?
I do not see a school or GLO affiliation.
Can someone fill me in?
Maybe something in an old Bairds.

Did you try asking the greek life office first? Sometimes they're very forthcoming about reasons for withdrawing recognition in an effort to dissuade people from joining the organzation(s). For example, I remember several years ago the University of Washington withdrew recognition of a fraternity on campus due to hazing, and they printed it in the greek life materials that year.
