Unusual depledging/rushing again situation
My sisters and I were a little perplexed by this situation, since we've never come across it before; I thought maybe someone here might have seen this happen before.
On my campus, we have a minimally structured recruitment and we do not practice bid matching. Therefore, it is possible for a girl to receive more than one bid (and although I've never heard of a girl receiving more than two, it's hypothetically possible). This past semester we extended a bid to a rushee who also received one from another organization on campus. She decided to pledge this organization, but then decided she no longer wanted to be a member of this organization and depledged. She has expressed interest in looking into our organization again in the spring, but we were somewhat confused as to whether or not that would be a possibility. Since she accepted a bid and depledged, rules state that she must wait a calendar year before attempting again to join another org, but another rule states that any bid the PNM receives is good for one year.
So which rule trumps which? Both bids were issued at the same time, and there is no stipulation that addresses this kind of situation (although there obviously should be!) Any thoughts, GCers?

I would talk to your school to see if you have any bylaws about what to do in this situation. At my campus, when we don't do bid matching, it's possible for girls to receive bids from all of the sororities, however, if a girl depledges from one sorority, she is not eligible to join another one for a calendar year.

I'm pretty sure she has to wait a year. If she signed one of her bids and depledged, she is bound for a calendar year. My campus does this type of recruitment in the fall, where PNMs can theroetically receive as many bids as there are chapters. I know of a woman who began pledging ABC in fall 04, depledged, and went through again in fall 05 and received a bid to XYZ. You might want to check your campus rules, but I am sure that once she signed a bid, she is bound to that chapter for a year, which means she'll be good for next fall.

I think she'd be bound to the other organization for one year from the day she pledged. That's the rule for informal recruitment, and I'd think the same would apply here. By accepting the bid to the other org, she implicitly declined your bid.
She can rush again next fall, of course.

Ditto...I agree -- She waits one year and is eligible next fall.

LBK_KPD- was the other org a local as well? If so, then I guess the rule is open for a little interpretation. If it's NPC then I would agree that yes, she waits one year. I guess I would check the wording on the rule about the bids the PNM recieved. Does it say bids recieved or does it say bids accepted?

Sory, I am not sure what the problem is here.
She got two bids, whe pledged on and was not happy and depledged.
If the school says she has to wait a year then so be it.
She can hang out for certain functions and maybe she decides not to join that group either.
Maybe she should not be a member of any group?

Edited beacuse my response was unique to a particular school, and not necessarily representative of NPC.

I think that must be a rule your school specifically has (or that specific NPC sorority). My school has 6 NPC sororities and there are times girls have depledged a chapter they joined during formal recruitment and joined another chapter during the following years' formal recruitment. If they had to wait a year by the date they depledged, then none would've been allowed a bid (as formal recruitment is at the same time virtually every year and most of these girls gave their original 'homes' at least 2-3 weeks before depledging).

ForeverRoses: Our campus is a Panhellenic campus, although we do have local organizations (including my own) as part of the Panhellenic Council, so we're all subject to the NPC rules.
I was inclined to think that she would be ineligiable once she accepted one of her bids and then depledged. I know she will be eligiable for Fall '07 recruitment, as I know several women on my campus who have depledged their original houses in the fall, so I'm not concerned about the "calendar year" technicality.
Thanks all for your information on the matter!

Bear, you may be correct. Probably the best bet is to ask the campus Panhel or Greek advisor.
