It's summer, it's time to bring this thread back to the light!
Good books I've recently read/finish and recommend.
The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein.
This is a great book for anyone out there who is a dog lover or a race car lover. This is the story of one family's life/struggles, told through the eyes of the beloved and eccentric fast-car-loving pooch, Enzo. The way that Garth Stein tells this story through the eyes of a dog is wonderful, and perfect. Enzo believes that everything he learns in his dog life, is preparing him for his next life, in which he believes he will be human. Definitely a great read. There are some major sad parts though, so be prepared.
Also, make sure you get
"The Art of Racing in the Rain" there is an equivalent youth version with I'm assuming some of the more mature parts taken out called "Racing in the Rain"
The Golden Acorn by Catherine Cooper
I think this would be an interesting read for those who like books like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, or the Redwall series. Jack Brenin is a boy, who recently moved to live with his grandfather. While hiding from some bullies, Jack happens upon his magical neighbor and The Golden Acorn. Jack is the chosen one to save the mystical forest creatures that without his help, will die out forever. It is I think supposed to be a children's story, but I enjoyed it anyways. It's free on
Amazon Kindle right now too!
Now this next one wasn't my favorite book ever, but it would be a good summer read if you have a Kindle, bc right now it's only $0.99
Line of Scrimmage by Marie Force
This is the story of Mavs Superbowl hero, Ryan Sanderson and his soon-to-be ex-wife. After a Superbowl win, Ryan returns to his wife 10 days before their divorce is finalized and blackmails her into going away to their cabin with him.
What happens there ignites a love story folded in with LOTS of drama. That was my biggest downside of this book... there was WAY too much drama in it, although if this were a real life situation, I could imagine all of that drama actually happening in this situation.
Another annoying part of the book for me was the way the divorce agreement has been set up by the judge. It does not seem like a believable situation, and there are numerous moments that left me frustrated with the story because of non-realistic obstacles brought on by the divorce settlement.
Overall, still a good book that kept me reading because I wanted to know what happened.
I picked it up because it seemed interesting and was only $0.99 on my Kindle. Don't take it too seriously, and you will enjoy it.
