Sorority Etiquette

Our sororities and fraternities are housed in offices in the Student Organization Office. Everyone has a bulletin board both outside the office and inside the office.
A certain sorority(which shall remain nameless since they are so hateful) decided that they are throwing a party. They made flyers. One is in their office on their bulletin board, one is outside on their bulletin board, and the other one is inside another fraternity office.
The signs that are on the outside bulletin board have 'by invite only'. My question is why put a sign on the outside if the party is by invite only? And if you're only inviting one of the fraternities. . .why would you put the sign outside to make the others feel like they aren't good enough to attend? In fact, why even put up sign. . .why don't you just keep it among your group?

Anyway, I just want to put this out there as a simple etiquette thing that most sororities just overlook.

That's just weird. Why advertise an invitation only party? *shrug*

That is so tasteless!!!!! Why distrubute fliers advertising an invitation only party! It doen't make any sense at all! I wonder if it is a ploy to rub it into the faces of the uninvited.

this sorority hates the other ones
(and to think, this was my first choice sorority)
they deliberately throw parties and make sure everyone knows about it
but when other people show up, they ask them to leave

well, i'm going to bring it up at the next panhell meeting
just out of common courtesy

I'm not sure I would bring this up at Panhell because that will make the other sorority continue to do that. I understand why they are doing it; it's to make girls who might want to join a sorority to see that they have the most fun and have the best parties and that they only party with the best fraternities.

So I wouldn't really get too mad about it. That's what the other sorority wants is more attention.

One girl may have put it up, but ONE girl did not make all those flyers on her own dime!

What a bunch of wanna bes! I think annice has it right.

I'd take the darn thing down myself if I were there!

There are a dozen OTHER things I'd do as well, but then people might think I'm a meanie!

I think this is terrible behavior, but perhaps they post the "invite only" notices to avoid having to ask people to leave. I'm not trying to defend the action, simply trying to understand.

One thing to consider is campus rules.

On my campus, anyone hosting a party had to have an invitation list, and all parties were by invite only. In theory, if you weren't on the list, you couldn't get in. It wasn't always enforced (unless the campus safety folks were around...)

I suppose the real point is, GLOs would post flyers all the time, and they'd say by invite only. It was just the norm.

For the ones who don't know WC and I are good friends and go to the same school. And you all guessed it, I am the Panhellenic President.

Please tell me that didn't do that I hate not being able to go into Student O and not know what is going on. Plus it is in really bad taste since we are having rush this weekend, and what if friends go through together and one goes to them and the other one goes Phi Sig or Sig Kap? Does that mean that her friend can't come cause she's not on the list? This is going to be fun to deal with after rush starts. I am going to hate to run that Panhel meeting. Wish me luck!
