Recruitment Outfits!

I'm our Formal Recruitment Chair, and I'm trying to finalize my recruitment plans. Before I do so, I was wondering if anyone had some stellar recruitment outfits they'd worn for recruitment. We don't have themes at my university - but if anyone has any cute ideas, please let me know!!! Also, let me know if there are any other FRCs out there. I'd love to chat.

Pi Love,
EtaEpsilove

We have several things that have worked, but before I waste your time, tell me if you have any Panhellenic restrictions. i.e. - Is everyone allowed to dress exactly the same? Do you have guidelines on "casualness?" Our recruitment guidelines specify on certain nights things like "Cotton tshirts are acceptable" so that you don't have one sorority in tanks and shorts and another in ball gowns. Tell us what kind of rules you are obligated to uphold and we'll help you out!

I'm from her chapter.

We have basically no restrictions on what we wear. The only thing we can't do is make everyone wear the EXACT same outfit. Like, we can require wearing black polos, jeans, and black heels, but we can't require a black Lacoste polo, the same pair of Seven jeans and identical BCBG shoes, if that makes sense.

We copied one from MTSU for Open Houses: safari outfits. We used khaki shorts, khaki tops (camp shirts or t-shirts), some wore bandanas, a couple brave sisters wore pith helmets, and one nutjob sister (I say affectionately) carried a butterfly net. We then put lion paw prints along the Suite Tour route (Open Houses were also Suite Tours), and led the PNMs on a Safari. MTSU was allowed to wear identical outfits, and they were sharp, but we went with the above.

It might be overdone by now, though.

Here's our basic rundown...

Day One: School Spirit Day (We used to be able to wear letters, and would mix, with some sisters wearing their jerseys and others wearing shirts that represented campus activities). New rule-- no letters. So we would wear school colors and school t-shirts along with camp shirts, polo shirts or t-shirts that were from the clubs and activities that the individual members participated in. This was great to show our leadership and diversity of campus involvement.

Philanthropy Day: khaki bottoms with alternating red, white and blue fitted polo shirts to coordinate with Ronald McDonald House.

Video Day: Our video theme was "A League of Their Own." Members wore denim capris and baseball tees. Each members sleeves were different colors so there was a good mix.

Prefs: navy blue cocktail dresses in styles that flattered each individual member

One thing to keep in mind when choosing outfits --- think about the other sororities on your campus. For instance, on philanthropy day, do not wear red & yellow to match the Ronald McDonald House if you also have a Chi Omega chapter at your school.

We generally go a little dressier than the suggestions. Like this year we wore...

Open House: black ADPi polos with "Eta Epsilon" stitched in turquoise on the back of the popped collar, dark jeans, and black pointy-toed stilettos

First Round: medium blue button downs, black knee-length pencil skirts, black pointy-toed stilettos

Philanthropy: black and white dressy pin attire with turquoise accents (jewelry, scarves, shoes, etc.)

Pref: black cocktail dresses and shoes and pearls

stuff along those lines. We rarely would do t-shirts unless they were fitted and a little nicer (like the polos).

EtaEpsilove, I saw another chapter's shirts...they were fitted navy t-shirts with the crest on them in white. REALLY cute and might be good for open house?

Some things that have worked well in the past (before we could all dress the same):

1 - Philanthropy night. We did an RMH theme with red, yellow, and blue. Everyone was split into three equal groups and told to get a solid color tshirt in red, yellow, or blue. (And we suggested that OLD NAVY or GAP had tshirts that would be perfect! That got around the requirement thing, but still everyone was uniform in cut and style.) One year it was denim bottoms with the shirt, one it was overalls - back when they were cool. Then the room tied in with red, yellow, and blue balloons and nametags in an opposite color.

2 - Song night. Everyone was asked to wear a sundress where the primary color was a shade of blue. Some were light blue, some navy, some royal.... Not all were solid - there were stripes, polka dots, florals, etc. but all dresses were primarily blue and white. Blue is one of those colors where almost all shades work well in a group.

3 - Theme / skit night. We do a country theme. Everyone wears a solid black, fitted tshirt and a dark denim bottom - skirt, capri, jeans, whatever. We do get the shirts all together in bulk to save money and have the uniformity, but you don't have to do that. Then everyone is given a red bandana to add to the outfit. Some make it a headband, some tie it around a ponytail, some use it as a belt.... We are barefoot on that night, but you don't have to do that if you don't want.

4 - One year for an open house round, we all got plain white tshirts and put "big letters" in two colors on them - lettered jerseys I guess they are called. No specific requirements on color - just two bright colors. Then denim bottoms and a matching ribbon belt.

5 - For preference, if you can get away with it, purchase a ton of the same fabric. We got a beautiful azure blue fabric from JoAnn Fabrics (and got a discount for getting so much). Then the FRC chose a pattern that had three different tops. The bottoms were all the same, but the tops were different. Everyone wore pearl necklaces and cream strappy sandals. We've also done the same thing with a cream fabric.

If I think of others, I'll post! We had a rule that shirts could not be made specifically for a recruitment event, so we just conveniently had really cute lettered jerseys made as a summer house party shirt or some other event. A few people would wear them and be sure to be seen in them, but on the whole, they were used primarily for recruitment! Now we can match shirts with no restrictions, so all the collegians wear the same lettered jersey on Philanthropy night.

Thanks for all the suggestions! It's really helping me out. ADqtPiMel is from my chapter, and is correct, we tend to be a little dressier and really have few restrictions (except that it can't all be the exact same brand). Thanks again!

Here's a breakdown of our themes for recruitment:

1st sets: We have a Casino Theme. All the girls wear one black and white piece, and one all black piece. For example if she had a black and white patterned skirt she would wear a plain black top with it, and vice versa. This is paired with black shoes.

2nd sets: We have a Tiffney's Theme. For this set we wear a teal polo with ADPi stiched on in white. For bottoms a white skirt, capris, or pants are allowed with white shoes. We emphasize diamonds or rhinestones as accessories.

Third sets: A new theme we are trying this year is a Kentucky Derby theme. We'll all wear sundresses in pastel colors with up to two colors max in the dress. A couple of the girls will also be wearing big Derby style hats, and pearls are used as accessories.

Prefs: Black cocktail dresses wil be worn by all members in flattering styles.

Hope this helps and good luck with recruitment!!

Oh, I could SO get behind this!!

Welcome to GreekChat, jalefere1! I would normally ask you to sign in on the Chapter Board, but you might want to wait until after Recruitment now - everyone on GreekChat can see our boards. But please take a moment and read the threads marked Important, if you don't mind! Thank you!
