I did enjoy the descriptions of New Orleans.

About two weeks ago, I finished "Little Bee" by Chris Cleave. It was okay. I felt like the ending was rushed, but it was very well-written.

My next book to read is "Blue Nights," by Joan Didion. Not sure if I'm going to check it out of the library or buy it. I'm usually very happy with her writing so it might be a worthwhile addition to my library.

I'm currently reading The Camel Club. Pretty good so far, but I've read only a quarter of it or so.

^^ I'm with ya. It's a good series. There's a thread dedicated to the series somewhere around here... I think everyone who posted in it is anxiously awaiting the movie.

I just finished "The Art of Fielding," which was good but not great. It was a bit inconsistent to me...some of the chapters were great, and others the writing was uneven.

Now I started "Infinite Jest," which I've wanted to read for a long time.

I'm about four hundred pages into it, myself. SO GOOD, though I think it would have been a different experience if I had read it prior to 2009.

I just finished The Help, finally, probably the last person on earth to read it. It was OK, but what was with the weird use of "Missus"? It set my teeth on edge every time I saw it.

The Camel Club was pretty good - if you're a fan of conspiracy theory type books. It's the first in a series by David Baldacci, so I expect I'll read others in the series. It's a page-turner, for sure (despite its occasional, but true to genre, far-fetchedness).

Before I tackle the rest of the series, though, I'm contemplating reading The Book Thief. Have any of you read it? I've heard and read excellent reviews of it, but it sounds like it'll be extremely depressing. If you've read it, is it one of those where you have to read through tears? I have a really hard time with those.

A friend just lent me Katie MacAlister's Aisling Grey, Guardian series. I'd read one of her other books and wasn't enamored and now I remember why: it's told in first person and she "talks" to the reader. Things like "If you remember, I mode obvious clues.". This is a book, not Miss Manners addressing a gentle reader...drives me nuts! Also, the main character has done about 4 mind-change 180s in the last few chapters with little explanation as to why. Ya like the guy, you hate him, you're making a pact with him, you didn't agree to THAT even though you "signed on the dotted line" without knowing the terms. Poo or get off the pot.

Just finished "Blue Nights" which was fantastic, but not as good as "The Year of Magical Thinking."

Once I can find a copy of "Catching Fire," I'll start reading that one! I guess everyone read "The Hunger Games" in preparation for the movie and now they're hooked.
