Bomb Thrown on Alpha Phi Lawn (U. of No. Colorado)
Slightly old news, but a man was arrested after detonating a homemade bomb on the lawn of the Alpha Phi sorority at the U. of Northern Colorado in Greeley.
The story is in the campus paper, the Mirror
http://mirror.unco.edu/modules.php?n...ticle&sid=4323
The man has been removed from Alpha Kappa Lambda fraternity, and AKL officers and members have reportedly cooperated in the investigation of the incident. Nevertheless, and probably understandably, the fraternity is on probation at the present time.
As you might expect, a lot of the paper copies of the Mirror either were stolen or mysteriously disappeared the day the issue with the story appeared.

"Dean of Students Jean Schober Morrell released a memorandum to fraternity presidents stating that the fraternity has been placed on probation and is currently prohibited from accepting new members.
She also said Alpha Kappa Lambda officers have been helpful in her investigation. “It’s important to know that the president and two other members came to see me first thing in the morning,” she said. “The group has been very upstanding. I realize this is a few people, and they are being held accountable.”
In the past Alpha Kappa Lambda has been involved in programs that have worked to end domestic violence."
At least this is a pretty straightforward report, with no "editorializing by the reporter, and the Dean is pretty even-handed in her comments.
Northern Colorado (UNC) does not have a particularly large Greek community, but it does seem to get along with the University reasonably well.
The former President, who is now interim President at The University of Colorado (C.U), (Former US Senator) Hank Brown is a Delt from the former C.U. chapter and was very supportive of Greek Life when he was in Greeley.

Stupidity to the highest degree.
But, from the article, the AKL Members were extemely helpful in working with the ADM. and then they are placed on Probation?
So, what the hell is the point in trying to work within guidelines and then getting kicked in the teeth?
Call BS on this deal! It is sad for the many Brothers of AKL who knew nothing of the situation until it arose.

I agree, Tom.
I obviously take offense to this, since I am an Alpha Phi. However, I would be offended regardless of the GLO targeted.

Let's not jump to too many conclusions too quickly. It may be that the probation is simply until a few facts are sorted out. It seems to me that the Dean's comments are not terribly threatening -- but the University has to consider its' own liability in every case.
If the probation holds and the chapter is found blameless (assuming the bomb wasn't built at the fraternity and that none of the other members knew what was going on), then I'll agree that the situation is unfair.
It's a little like everyone being a crime suspect until they are ruled out. I'm sure you've witnessed that before.
