Rush is a time for you to get the sororities on your campus and a time for the sororities to get to know you.
It's usually at the beinging of the fall semester and last about a week. This varies from school to school.
At LSU(Louisiana State University), the rushees go thur 4 sets of parties.
Parites 1&2 are called ice water. Since our rush is at the end of August it is usually hot. So for two days, the rushees visit all the sororities houes just geting to know all the members.
Party 3- this is the community service round. the houses that invite you back will tell you about their main community service project. you get to help them in their lastest project. It could be anything from making goodie baskets for sick children,to planting flowers
Party 4 is Preference- this is were you narrow down your choice to your top three. The three sororities put on a little skit for you tell you why they like being in that sorority
Last but not least is Bid Day- this is were you find out what sorority you were invited to. you spend the day getting to your your new sisters and you your new pledge class.
I'm not sure how fraternity rush works. i think it's just a series of open houses.
hope this helps
