I learned to play the clarinet in 7th grade and played through high school. I took up the bassoon when I was a sophmore in high school and played til I graduated. I didn't play in college. I'd like to learn how to play the saxophone or oboe.

My brother learned to play the violin in third grade and stopped in 6th grade. He switched to the drums in seventh grade and was in his college marching band all four years.

I played the viola in Grades 4-6. I loved playing the viola because it made such beautiful sounds. Everyone played the violin (look in the thread!), so I liked being unique. Believe it or not, my mom made me quit because she said she wanted me to take gym so I could lose weight. The sad part? I'm still full-figured, and I'll always be thick at the very least.

I'll probably pick it back up again in the future for two reasons. I have developed a fondness for classical music, and Ken Ford puts in work when he plays jazz violin! Maybe I can learn how to "jam" on the strings....

I started Playing Piano and reading music in Kindergarten. I played the recorder in 2nd grade. Played the Violin and the Clarinet in 3-5th grade. I played Piano until 7th grade. I stayed with the Violin from 3rd grade up though. I stoped playing Clarinet because my teacher at the time said I was spending too much time out of her class with Gifted, Violin AND Clarinet. So I had to pick one. I'm glad I stayed with Violin though. I got a great Stradivarious out of it, I was damn good(no modesty up in herre ) and I made all of the older advanced students jealous. The haters... but I digress LOL!

I wanted to play viola and cello. I LOVE the way they sound...very deep, rich especially with a great virbrato on it. But I was section leader. I wasn't giving that up.

I played saxophone in junior high...in high school though it was basically a choice between music and sports, and that wasn't a hard choice at all. I dropped the saxophone as fast as I could.

I was ok, and probably would have been pretty solid if I kept with it...but I didn't.

I played the cornet in middle school (6th and 7th grade). I was in marching band and jazz band. My favorite songs to play were Fiddler on the Roof, Aura Lee, and the theme to St. Elsewhere.

I also performed the theme to Dynasty in a talent show (psyche). I wish I did, though.

While it was a good experience, by 8th grade I lost interest and never pursued music again.

These are the following instruments I have played:

recorder - 3rd - 5th at Northview elementary (Olathe, KS)

tried the violin, but didn't quite get that to work for me in 6th, so moved on to the clarinet - 6th through 9th

Wasn't in band 10th grade

Played in the pit (which consists of the bass drum, miramba, triangle, bells, guiro, xylophone, cymbals, and some snare) in 11th grade.

Didn't play in band in 12th

I have played the tambourine in church all my life (pretty much anyway)
