That picture is kind of what I meant.

I can't imagine wearing red Dickies that fit like normal pants. Especially if you have a fat ass.

AGDee - google Nantucket Reds, it tells you about them. Like I said, I think they're cute & would wear a pair of those in a second, but (yes I am going overboard with semantics) I would think sasquatch et al would have called them "Red shorts" instead of "red shorts."

This whole thing is RaggedyAnn's fault because she brought up Lisa Birnbach's name and it's like saying Biggie Smalls 3 times in the mirror.

I know, I was being silly

And yeah, I remember when the Official Preppy Handbook taught us how to dress! That was high school for me!

I did not go to Texas A&M University but I went to many football games with friends that went there. The students mostly wore an Aggie t-shirt with jeans or shorts and parents and Alumnae dressed in the same. Usually, Texas A&M has a football season t-shirt that most students will buy and wear to the football games every year. Some Alumnae or parents would dress nicer but nothing too fancy.

My monitor must be messed up, too. I was like when I saw the pants.

I just love the idea of dressing up for games.

And as for the heat, well, I remember one outside wedding in August in San Marcos when my husband asked if he could take off his jacket. "No", I sweetly replied, "There are just some things you do not do." In my book, attending a wedding in shirt sleeves is one of them. Now, I do think whoever thinks an outdoor wedding in Texas in August is a good idea is a few sandwiches short of a picnic, but that's just me.

My South Carolina born and bred grandfather wore 3 pieced suits all day on Sundays. It would be 100 degrees and they would act like they have on shorts and tshirts.

But it turns out that's what they had always done. Even those who weren't of a certain social class did it.

I was born and raised in Texas and I agree with this in so many ways!

I guess) shorts (or pants depending on the time of year) and sperrys/wallabees/rainbows/boots. Croakies and whatever your pair of sunglasses are (costas, ray ban, maui jim, etc) If you're greek, this is the general dress because this is how we've always dressed. When I was a little kid I wore the same clothes (albeit smaller) that I do now. It creates a gap between the GDI's and the Greeks because you can easily tell who is Greek and who is not which is why we never wear "jerseys" and don't need party t-shirts.

Football games, pledges wear ties and a suitcoat. Most members wear ties and an oxford with some variation.

For chapter meetings, polo and pants. For ritual chapter, full dress (tie, button up, jacket, etc).

I have my own feelings regarding elsewhere but choose to keep them quiet in an effort to keep the thread on track. I don't care what other people wear, I know what looks good and what doesn't.
exact same goes for South Carolina, you will see fraternity guys wearing event t shirts though, by no means some kind of sweater with their letters all huge on it though or a hat like that.

you can usually tell the difference between a gdi and fraternity member, but a lot of people not in fraternities dress that way here too so distinctions aren't always clear cut

and about the comparison between college football and professional football dress. Those are completely different crowds, you wont see all the fratters out at a Falcons game when they go to UGA.

if you haven't noticed, the south isn't too known for their professional teams lol, the north and out west have us beat there. In the south everyone is stuck in the glory days of Herschel Walker's Georgia, Bear Bryant's Bama, etc.

its two different atmospheres that you can't compare. I feel like the NFL is always trying to make itself more modern with all kinds of sell out hip hop advertisements on that are just getting ridiculous, i feel like college sports and maybe the MLB are the only untainted things; which explains the traiditonal dress you don't understand. Its just how things are done.

Agreed. All we got is the Falcons and the Saints...Falcons and New Orleans fans are mostly either inner-city or otherwise.

College is important to Southern states because often it's the only "pro" team we have. The only chance we'll ever get to compete against Southern California (and get smoked) or other states. It's important. In most Southern states, on game day the Stadium becomes the 3rd biggest city in the state. In this sort of atmosphere, it's easy to see why we dress up.
