Tri Sigma help!
Hi everyone! My name is Emilie, and I am hoping to become my chapters next Recruitment Director. I am trying to get everything put together since our chapter does to Spring recruitment, so that if elected I am ready to go!
I wanted to post on here and see how other chapter do it. We are a commuter school so its hard to get girls to participate for everything. How do you all do it? Are there fines for missing stuff?
Also, how do you REQUIRE outfits? We've tried in the past but someone always argues that they don't own jeans (yes jeans) and end up missmatching all of us.
Are there any chants or games or anything else you can give me so I can make this the best recruitment ever?!!?
Thank you all, Sigma love and mine.
Emilie

Hi Emilie,
Congrats on your new appointment! Have you reached out to your Regional Specialist yet? She can help you with your questions.
If you can tell me what chapter you're from, I can PM you her contact information!

I'm not a Tri Sigma, nor did I attend a commuter school, so bear that in mind.
My chapter encouraged participation in non-mandatory events and required participation in mandatory events via a point system. For instance, you got points for going to mixers and sisterhood events, and lost points for each day of work week and recruitment that you missed (barring a valid excuse like illness or religious obligations). You lost mega points for missing initiation. If you didn't accumulate enough points, you lost privileges (like not being allowed to go to formal) and/or incurred fines.
And you require outfits by telling the sisters well in advance, "We are wearing red t-shirts, blue jeans, and boots for round 1, white blouses, black skirts, and pumps for round 2, and black dresses and heels and your badge for pref. If you don't own these clothing items or shoes, BUY THEM." Then you do dress checks, and tell sisters who have (let's say) too short a skirt for round 2 to go buy (or borrow) a longer skirt. The required items should be items that can be re-worn - who doesn't need a nice black dress or a pair of jeans? If a sister turns up to recruitment wearing the wrong outfit, send her off to change clothes, or keep her off the floor and make sure she loses points for missing a day of rush. You may come off as a b*tch, but think about how weird it'll look when PNMs arrive and see 99 women in red t-shirts and one in hot pink.
Good luck to your chapter on your upcoming recruitment!

Wait, the girl in your example couldn't borrow jeans from one of the other sisters? NONE of the other members had an extra pair to lend?
Sorry....I just have a hard time with that......

^ With you on that, navane. Somebody in the chapter must have a spare pair of jeans in the correct size to lend out...

It's possible....I'm so short that there was never anyone I could borrow clothes from, nor did anyone ask to borrow from me.

You'll only have to do it once or twice before everyone will get the message!

If you check the NPC Green book, chapters should not be wearing matching outfits. If it is something that is happening throughout panhellenic, you might want to suggest contacting your area adviser to come up with ideas on how this can be phased out.

I would think everyone could wear jeans with different color tops...

Way, way back in the 1970s, our chapter tried a "do your own thing" outfit for the first day of rush (as it was called then). It was hard to pick out a sister when it was time to rotate. After rush was done, we would "de-brief" our new members to get feedback on our performance, and we discovered that the PNMs also didn't like not being able to identify sisters.
I don't think we went to identical garments the next year, but we did wear the same color-such as jean shorts and a red top for our skit day.
