Toast Song

Does anyone know to what tune we sing the Toast Song too? I've looked it up on the internet and I've seen some web pages that said to the tune of "Alma Mater"...does this refer to the school's Alma Mater or is there a song called Alma Mater?

Disclaimer: I know the Toast Song and I know the tune of the Toast Song. I was watching a movie *Dirty Dancing* and I heard a song that was the EXACT SAME TUNE as our Toast Song *Kellerman's Anthem*.

It's now generally used as the generic name for a school's Alma Mater, I think. There's more information about the tune on Wikipedia here and here. (Interesting stuff!)

Thanks Sister H for replying. I checked out the 2 links. How do you know it's the same tune? Were you able to play it on your comp?

I played the mp3 for the "Far from Cayuga" song. Total match for the tune of our Toast Song, including the second part of the second version ('now we raise our grateful voices...' part).

Dirty Dancing

I love how now when I watch Dirty Dancing I just think of the toast song. Yey for Baby's sister tone deafness.

Well, I can do you better.

In the movie 'Dead Poet's Society', Robin Williams comes in the first day of class whistling the tune of the Order of the Arrow's song. This would be strange because the tune is the old pre-Communist Russian Anthem. (God Save the Tsar). In the Venturing Leadership course, we actually show this clip of the movie.

I have yet to hear why Williams' character is whistling that particular tune.

Totally off topic...but speaking of Dead Poet's Society...the kid who plays the pipes in the begining played (pipes...not like on the playground) with my dad. He's supposed to be a really nice kid.

Continuing the OT....

Really? Been listening to bagpipes for a good 20 years now, thanks to the bands Dad's played with - even discovered one of the Lambdas in our chapter plays.
