^ Um... XAntX, the pics are big black rectangles. Was that intentional?

Same thing happened this morning. "FUCK, IT'S COLD!"

When I moved down here, I brought my favorite letter sweatshirt. My coworkers may end up learning my affiliation before NPC Badge Day.

Yeah, it was a screencap from my phone. Just copied and pasted here.

The leasing office staff at my new apartment building in New Orleans puts together a social event once a month. The events for the past two months have been held at bars - "come by such-and-such bar and get a free drink".

The social event for October was held this evening. The building has a movie room, and they did a screening of Rocky Horror Picture Show.

LAMEST. SHOWING. EVAR.

NOBODY heckled the movie. Not one syllable.

Only about a dozen people showed up, and that's counting the leasing office staff. The building has probably 200+ apartments. I chatted with a couple of people before the movie started, and, between that and other conversations I overheard, I gathered that none of us was a virgin ... but nobody actually took the initiative to start off the audience participation. (I take my share of the blame for this. What can I say - I'm an introvert.)

I hope that they will go back to having social events at bars next month.

“There is, however, a somber point in the social outlook of Americans. Their sense of equality and human dignity is mainly limited to men of white skins. Even among these there are prejudices of which I as a Jew am clearly conscious; but they are unimportant in comparison with the attitude of the "Whites" toward their fellow-citizens of darker complexion, particularly toward Negroes. The more I feel an American, the more this situation pains me. I can escape the feeling of complicity in it only by speaking out…
Your ancestors dragged these black people from their homes by force; and in the white man's quest for wealth and an easy life they have been ruthlessly suppressed and exploited, degraded into slavery. The modern prejudice against Negroes is the result of the desire to maintain this unworthy condition.” - Albert Einstein, from the article “The Negro Problem”, January 1946 issue of Pageant Magazine

That's really cool! We did a party to celebrate when I become a citizen in 2012

^ That is very cool.

When my mother became a citizen, my father took her out to a nice restaurant for dinner. Neither of them was ever big on parties.

Radio Station Programming Specialists PLEASE take notice:

QUASH THE REPETITIVE CHRISTMAS/HOLIDAY MUSIC TAPE LOOPS YOU'VE USED FOR TOO MANY YEARS.

Christmas/Holiday radio music is nice ONLY when six different versions of the same song aren't played twelve times per day. Yes, we know all the words to that song, we hear it every other hour all day. We turn the channel when those songs constantly repeat; can everyone say "lost revenue for your advertisers because no one is listening"?

EXPAND YOUR CHRISTMAS/HOLIDAY MUSIC PLAYLIST.

Note that there are songs about winter activities that could and should be played months after Christmas that no station ever plays after December 25th, songs about skating, sledding, snow falling, winter love, building snowmen, etc. Use some imagination and research to give people more of what they really want: variety in your Holiday music playlist.

You might also consider playing music from 'other' December holidays once in awhile.

Happy Holidays, and Thank You.

It sure didn't take long for the library to put up David Cassidy items on their Recently Dead Celebrities table tonight.

Politicians and academics always seem to say they want things to run more like a business - until you ask them about transparency in $$ decision making, cronyism, facilities maintenance, diversity AND inclusion, distribution of resources, equity amongst employees, rewarding equal work with equal pay and benefits, etc.

Some of the stuff I’ve seen wouldn’t fly if I had taken that job at Whataburger....

As we approach member #300,000, I would really like to create a sock puppet so the distinction doesn't go to a "person" with the user name of plsgflflfld.

This morning, the temperature was 20 degrees.

This would be well within the norm in New York or New England.

I am in New Orleans.

New Orleans is totally unprepared for this level of cold. Most New Orleanians are unaccustomed to this type of weather, and do not know how to drive on icy roads or even walk on icy pavement. A mother and baby died not far from here after the mother lost control of her car and it fell into a drainage canal. There are no trucks to spread salt or sand, nor is there salt or sand to spread.

I'm glad I don't have to drive anywhere for the next couple of days - I know how to drive in these conditions, but I'm worried about sharing the road with people who don't.

If you don't know how to drive in icy and snowy weather, no matter where you live, STAY OFF THE ROAD.
