I think that's true of larger, more competitive recruitments. If you're at a school like Ole Miss, LSU, or Bama, chances are that EVERY girl is going to have tons of community activities. In order to stand out, you would have to go beyond what all the other girls have.
For example, almost every PNM might have participated in their soup kitchen or neighborhood cleanup, so that's not going to strike the sororities as anything "stellar". But, if a girl has done something like travel to Uganda to build water wells for African children, THAT activity is pretty unique and it stands out on a PNMs resume.
