That's appalling. How on earth would an alum being there make collegians uncomfortable?? I won't lie, if I were in your shoes I would seriously consider how much I would want to support that chapter. After all, if you're not welcome in the house, sending a check would be SURE to make the collegians "uncomfortable."

Never apologize for being passionate. 
You know that is what diversity means to many members of the majority/dominant group. You wipe out any hint of differences between people (and pretend to be colorblind, etc.) and eventually assimilate everyone into the majority/mainstream standard. That is how diversity tends to be done in society at large and that is how diversity is done in many "predominantly majority" institutions including Greekdom.

That makes sense, because even the argument that the groups have no interest in changing to be like each is met with a well they don't know what's best for them, they're going with the antiquated status quo, someone needs to go in and show them how it should be done, because they can't possibly know what's best for them. It's been compared to the civil rights movement and how the south would say oh well this works for us, so lets keep the racism.

So far, the new job has been great. Still not my "dream job", but I like the office, the people, and most definitely the 2.8 mile commute.
Best moment at work so far: I started Thursday, and the last half hour, the woman training me didn't want to start anything new, so she sent me into the file room to file. Friday morning, she told me that she got chastised because "she is NOT to be used for filing". Obviously, I'm not thrilled that the other woman got in trouble, but I love that I'm "above filing". Of course, I ended up filing all my own work that day, because just because I've been told I don't need to, doesn't mean I won't go ahead and do it. I don't need to be a primadonna (well, not in my non-theatre work anyway).

I went to an amazing selichot service this evening. I had to go as I'm in the synagogue's choir - but it was a truly inspiring service.
In Judaism, as we approach the new year (which starts this Wednesday night - eek, so early!), we reflect on the past year and on our sins. The selichot service on the Saturday night before Rosh Hashanah is a part of that.
When I wasn't focused on singing, I was thinking about how much more I could have done for my mother, who passed away earlier this year.  I'll take care of my father, and I'll try to pay it forward - Mum died of cancer, so I will happily lend my support to causes that fight cancer.
