Transferring to a new school: is rushing recommended?

I am transferring across state lines to a new school with a new major and I don't know anybody where I'm going. Is rushing a good idea?

It's a good idea if you want to join a Greek organization.

It's required if you want to join a Greek organization.

It's a great idea to join a Greek-lettered organization, especially if you're transferring! A close friend of mine is transferring to my university and is going through sorority recruitment in the fall, so you're definitely not the only person who's doing it! I wish you the best of luck and hope you find a GLO that's right for you

I would absolutely recommend going through recruitment! This past fall I transferred to a big SEC school where I knew absolutely nobody and am so glad that I went through recruitment. It was a great way to meet people (I still am friends with girls from my Gamma Chi group and girls who I just met along the way) and it worked out so beautifully for me.
Do try to familiarize yourself with the process at your new school. Ask the Greek Life Office about how common it is for sophomores/ juniors/transfers to go through, if there is an upperclassman quota, how common/important letters of recommendation are, how COB works, etc. The more you know going in the better.

If you do decide to participate, just be open to what every house has to offer and have fun with it!
