an idea

So this is the situation. My chapter's about 12 people, due to a rough semester last year, and want to get our name out and recognized more on campus. We're having an all-chapter retreat a few days before school starts to hash things out--how to improve our image, pick up more girls, stop LOSING girls, etc. I was thinking to myself and the thought struck me--maybe we could host or sponsor a campus memorial service on September 11 this fall. My query is 1) is this a decent idea and 2) what exactly do people do at these sorts of things?
Any thoughts would be helpful!

My chapter had a vigil on the night of the attacks, and Im hoping to arrange another one this year at our house on Sept 11. So I think its a wonderful idea!

I think that sounds like a good idea of something to do...however be careful not to try to "profit" from this disaster. I dont think it is a good idea to use this as a marketing tool. If you do this shouldnt it be done as greek sponsored instead to try to strengthen the bond of greeks as a whole?? Just my opinion though. I think there are better ways to retain girls than this....

I think it's an ok idea. make sure your campus isn't already doing something that may conflict though. check your pm box though.

For 9-11, the entire school had a candlelight vigil. It was the most beautiful thing.. all the school's organizations including all the GLO's were there along with faculty and staff.

This year the GLO's will have another one this year. I think there is also going to be a big community service project all the GLO's will participate in that day. I think it's a great idea because the community benefits, and it gives all the GLO's a chance to come together, whether they are rivals or not, to do something good.

How about taking the lead in organizing an all-greek candlelight vigil or other memorial event? If your school or community already has an evening event planned, consider a morning event to coincide with the time of the tragedy. Planning an event like this should bring your sisters closer together, and word will get out to the greek community and pnm's that your org did all the grunt work.
