^^I think I know that guy for real!!! LOL He went to my high school.
Anyways, both our fraternity and sorority have handsigns(both scriptural in meaning)
The females are holding up the sign language for love and the light skinned dude at the bottom is making Eagle wings with his hands(because the frat is called Eagles, Isaiah 40:31)

here's a link to a previous thread regarding handsigns
i love seeing how a lot of the handsigns are the same, but slightly different - obviously they will have different meanings to each org.

Hand signs are most definitely considered a symbol of gang membership. It's a "gansta" thing, ask any policeman if you don't believe it. God only knows why middle-class college kids would emulate such behavior. Just don't give those signs in neighborhoods like South Central L.A. or East New York in Brooklyn.

on our campus a lot of the organizations do handsigns. most people just blow it off, and don't really get it. i know ours has a lot of meaning to us, and most people don't know what it means. most of the other greeks on our campus have the same things. the handsigns are not necesarilly our letters, but they are just something that has to do with the org.

Hand signs do not begin or end with gangs, and I know plenty of Greek police officers who wouldn't tell you it's a "gangsta" thing. Are you real? Are you ever Greek?

The Iotas I know have thick skin and let their accomplishments speak for themselvses. They don't even respond to negative comments.
I think it has to do with the building of tradition instead of resting upon it.

Right. Just like bandanas and dark sunglasses didn't start with certain gangs. It's just on a "gang checklist."

Correct. It doesn't matter where hand-signs started (probably in prisons). It's now associated with gangs. Any policeman who doesn't know that needs to go back to the police academy for a refresher course.
(Off-topic, but how do you folks get the Greek letters into your signatures. I don't see a greek font in the signature drop-down????)

No and it's a good idea to not make assumptions to support your argument.
We should speak out against sports teams because dressing alike and doing things in groups that can end up in violence is NOW associated with gangs, too.

Pick a font, any font and then change the font name to "symbol" instead of "arial" or whatever.

We don't have an official hand sign but I've seen a few chapters do this, and mine does as well. You make an L shape with your thumb and index finger of both hands and tilt them towards eachother until your index fingers are crossing. This forms the letters chi and omega.
