PNMs and high school service

Someone told me that at a certain selective sorority at one of my alma maters, they now look for women who have been regular Mother Teresas in high school and performed very remarkable service. Not collecting cans in a school drive, but serious stuff.

Has anyone else heard of sororities wanting this?

I think that's true of larger, more competitive recruitments. If you're at a school like Ole Miss, LSU, or Bama, chances are that EVERY girl is going to have tons of community activities. In order to stand out, you would have to go beyond what all the other girls have.

For example, almost every PNM might have participated in their soup kitchen or neighborhood cleanup, so that's not going to strike the sororities as anything "stellar". But, if a girl has done something like travel to Uganda to build water wells for African children, THAT activity is pretty unique and it stands out on a PNMs resume.

I looked at all the applications this past year, and I could not believe the number of girls who had done things like travel to Mexico and just crazy amounts of community service. It's awesome but I don't remember having that much time in high school or the ability to go on mission trips either. And I went to a Catholic school that encouraged and required service.

It's only been 4 years people! What's going on!
