Wow, so much drams since I last visited this thread! I'm not going to even try to make sense of what KitKat is saying. I kind of hope that she's using an iPhone to type her posts, and auto-correct is getting the best of her.

To circle back for a moment:

Just what DubaiSis and APhi4Ever said (thanks for helping clarify on my behalf, ladies!) - I meant to stick up for DG regarding the comment that they "didn't do as well" by getting fewer women than the other chapters. Often the quantity of new members doesn't correspond to how well a chapter recruited. I was trying to avoid a rankings conversation, but perhaps I was a little too oblique.

I thought the GA and/or RFM specialist could withhold QAs if a chapter doesn't follow RFM return and release numbers during recruitment (i.e. they under-invited)? It seems like Greek advisors have a lot of latitude in terms of how they handle QAs.

KSU: If a PNM has 300+ hours in the chapter's favorite charity how can they be deselected from future recruitment without poor grades or a felony?

ss, I guess I am asking a membership question.

What are you saying? Do you know how competitive recruitment is at these schools? And why are we all of a sudden talking about Bama in the USC thread?

That is indeed a membership selection question.

I don't know all of the membership selection criteria for those groups and even if I did, it's private information.

However, I WILL tell you that grades are just one factor. There are many others. It's not just "good grades, she's in!" or "oh look at how much she volunteers, she's in!!!"

Those are standard things and guess what? Every other Bama PNM has them.

It takes more than just those things to get a bid, especially when the vast majority of PNMs have extremely high GPAs and resumes FULL of activities.

This particular thread is a good read for you (as it covers some of those intangible factors that a lot of really disappointed moms and PNMs fail to see):

http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...d.php?t=121568

In short, I'm sorry your child didn't get a bid. But to suggest that the women in chapters are somehow intellectually inferior or airheaded because they cut your daughter is really off base. And rude.

??? I'm not sure what school you are asking about (you mentioned Alabama, but on a USC thread).

Some sororities maintain GPAs significantly above the average for undergrad women (I assume .5, for instance, would represent a level of significance on a 4-point scale), and some sororities fall below the average for undergrad women. Link to a grade report sorted for comparison (Alabama Office of Greek Affairs):

http://greekaffairs.ua.edu/documents...evised_001.pdf

I think the average for sorority women is still slighty above the average for all undergrad women, however.

Other grade reports and stats at Alabama (including a link to past recruitment stats as well):

Thank you for the post. I need to reiterate that I was lead to believe that present day sororities were not about the "who you know" culture. Please don't tell mothers during orientation that you care about grades, charity, and leadership.

I'm pretty sure you cannot stay in the sorority without the minimum GPA.
