An ongoing investigation into hazing by a fraternity at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin resulted in the arrest of a 19-year-old student over the weekend, and News 4 WOAI learned Tuesday more arrests are possible.
A TLU student developed alcohol poisoning during a possible hazing incident at a fraternity house, officials said. Nineteen-year-old Marcus Pias surrendered to Guadalupe County officials and has been charged with deadly conduct and furnishing alcohol to a minor in connection with the incident.
Pias reportedly belonged to the Kappa Pi Alpha fraternity at TLU.
“They are no longer in existence on this campus,” Kathy Hughes with TLU said. Kappa Pi Alpha were disbanded and banished from the campus after a hazing incident last year, TLU officials said, but the frat is not exactly gone.
“I believe they have a house that some of the residents live in,” Larry Bloomquist with the Guadalupe County Attorney’s Office said. “I believe it's owned privately by one individual.”
Investigators said some of the old members were up to hazing tricks again. Pias paired up with another student.
“He was given a large amount of alcohol, and his head was shaved,” Bloomquist said. “There was some writing done on his face with a marker.”
“They broke numerous hazing laws, and numerous university policies,” Hughes said.
The Guadalupe County Attorney's Office told News 4 WOAI Pias’ arrest is only part of an ongoing investigating into hazing on the Texas Lutheran University campus. They said an investigation has been going on since last March.
