The irony is that 71 girls signed up for recruitment which was a record. For the first night 15 girls did not show and by the end, only 31 girls got matched with a house, but I am not entirely sure of the exact number of who accepted bids.

That does sound like something went wrong.
Did more girls get completely released by the groups or did more girls drop out?

Both. Each group was only allowed to invite a certain amount based on what they needed. It sounds good in theory, but it seriously hurts because we are all competing for the same girls. Also, PNMs don't like their invites so they drop. That makes the number of girls left drop even more.
That is one of the reasons why I do not believe that this release figure system is good for a small school. The end result worked out in a way, but I just do not agree with this process.

I would kindly suggest that you get more information before you make a statement like that.

I think chapters that size would be really cool, especially if that was just the average size on that campus.
But I think that they should probably not think in terms of a regular formal recruitment necessarily.

Granted, I'm not familiar with the Recruitment at this school, but why on earth is Total so high, if none of the sororities hit it by just taking Quota?
Sounds to me that this whole Recruitment needs to be discussed at the next Panhellenic meetings, complete with Quota & Total revisions. But that's just how I see it.

While I agree that it seems like the release figures may be part of the issue, I think the bigger problem is girls dropping out who weren't released. It seems like there needs to be more effort at the CPC level for everyone to promote greek life in general. Hopefully that will get more girls interested in all groups instead of one or two.

Maybe NPC needs to find new ways to recruit girls into the system. Just sitting back and waiting for them to come may not cut it! My alma mater went from having house totals of over 100 when I was there to 30 in less than a decade. There were years when quota was set at 5!!! My pledge class had 28 and the year after me had 36! Panhel started advertising and having information days on campus. It seems to have worked. House total is up to 75 and quota this year was 22. There are 3 groups on campus. Unfortunately, the weak chapter on campus when I was there closed during this time. I guess it was hard to keep the chapter going when you couldn't attract the 5 women that you were allowed.

Did anybody else instantly think, "Elle and Bruiser?" Or is that ancient history now?

Bid day dogs
My chapter had a giant stuffed dog named "Bucko". One year, he was in the composite with a top hat.

When I was in school, te ATOs had a dog named Jasper. Jasper went to class nearly every day, not only with the brothers of ATO, but with whoever would take him. Profs seemed to get use to the idea with one exception. Often, Jasper would become disruptive in class by snoring too loud.
