F9-11 Making GOP Nervous
'Fahrenheit 9/11' Making GOP Nervous
1 hour, 3 minutes ago
By MIKE GLOVER, Associated Press Writer
DES MOINES, Iowa - Republicans initially dismissed "Fahrenheit 9/11" as a cinematic screed that would play mostly to inveterate Bush bashers. Four weeks and $94 million later, the film is still pulling in moviegoers at 2,000 theaters around the country, making Republicans nervous as it settles into the American mainstream.

We'll see...it will be an interesting little historical lesson when all's said and done, to see just how much impact the film has on the electorate.
I'm not a fan of Moore or his films, so I'm hoping it doesn't sway too many; still though, it's an interesting situation to watch. It could be a good thesis topic for someone looking for their History/Poli Sci doctorate.

I'd rather just send him my $8 than sit through the movie. I know what he's gonna say.
I'd say it does have a chance to sway some of the few remaining swing voters.

My question is though, how many and for how long?
Maybe have exit polls out of the theater - I think it would be a first if nothing else.

I think you'll first need to drive these people to the polls - the issue comes in making these 'swayed' (ie 'uninformed as to what is 'fact' vs 'opinion') votes show up at the polls. If Moore pulls that off, he's a genius . . . still a dick, but brilliant nonetheless.
I don't know that you'll see these people showing up to vote, quite honestly - they'll support Kerry, then when it's inconvenient, they'll fall into the same 55% they did before.

True...I was only saying the exit poll thing half seriously, it really would be tough to do.
Slight hijack - Moore's going to be in Boston next week for a special screening of "Fahrenheit 9/11" at Coolidge Corner theatre (small theatre in Brookline). I really can't stand the guy, but it would be interesting to get into the show and see what he says. However it looks like it will be for delegates only.

While there is immmediate opinion change now... remember that no matter how fleeting it is change... and the release of the DVD prior to the US elections will also have an impact and generate more commentary and debate. What ever you say about Moore you have to give him credit; he knows how to play and spin controversy...

I don't know how many independents were swayed by the film... but I know lots of people who have not voted in the past who are planning to vote in this year's election after seeing the film. Not all of them are for Kerry though... but still, I think the movie will have some impact on voting.
