Help Me Identify This Frat/Sorority

My grandfather passed away a few years ago, and I just recently came across this piece while going through some of his old things. I have no idea which frat or sorority this is from and all of my searches have yielded nothing so far. I knew that he was in a fraternity, as he was part of many groups, and a colonel in the army, but my girlfriend is telling me that one of the symbols is the symbol for “female” which makes me extra confused.

It’s stamped .969 14K FJG, which designates 14 Karat Gold and the Fine Jewelers Guild, but I haven’t been able to find anything on the Frat/Sorority itself. Does anyone have any information on this? It’s likely at least 50 years old, possibly more.

Thanks in advance.

I suppose it’s possible. That would put it in the 1940s. It doesn’t look like any college Frat I’ve seen. But I’m not an expert. I know there is no reverse “C” in the Greek alphabet.

I could be totally off base but the symbols more closely resemble runes than greek letters. Could it possibly be a secret society? I know they exist on some campuses, there was one at my alma mater that revealed their senior members at an awards ceremony each year.

It could be. He was a colonel and a member of the Republican National Committee from the Reagan Administration to the first Bush Administration. Among his things I found lots of letters (mass produced) from several presidents and prominent politicians such as Newt Gingrich and lots of mass produced RNC memorabilia such as signed photos of the Bushs and Reagans. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Revolution.

They look like alchemical symbols, but I didn't see any particular overlap except the "female" symbol, which means Venus.

Was he a Freemason? Sometimes the Masons are a gateway to other societies which use such symbols.

He was indeed a Freemason, as am I. I’m only a third degree, but I don’t recognize any of these symbols. I suppose I can take it to my lodge and see if any of my brothers have any clue.

I'm also a Mason.

The symbols look like they could be derived from Rosicrucian traditions, or perhaps some other Western esotericism.

Or it could be nothing of the sort. *shrug*

The first side is the symbol of Venus from the Seal of the Seven Planets from Henrich Agrippa's second book "Of Occult Philosophy". It focuses on celestial magic and this is one of his kameas, or magical squares.

On this page - http://www.esotericarchives.com/agrippa/agripp2b.htm you can see the symbols from the front and back (this is from the book listed above). The front is the full seal. The symbols on the back are for the Intelligence of Venus (the long M one), the Spirit of Venus (the backwards C with the circles on the end), and the Intelligences (the triangle weird one). The circle and plus sign symbol is the planetary symbol for Venus. Anael/Haniel is the archangel associated with this seal. http://www.archangels-and-angels.com...gel_anael.html

So while I can say it's a magic square, can't say if it's associated to any groups in particular.

Here's some more info on Agrippa's magic squares - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_...s_in_occultism

PS: Here's a new pendant from Etsy similar to the front - https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/671113578/seal-of-venus
