How about...a Hollywood glamour theme, a snowy wintery theme, a Mardi Gras theme, or a tropical theme?

My pledge class had a tropical theme and we called it "Remember me in Paradise." It was really cute! We had a fondue pot filled with chocolate with pineapple and strawberry, and all of the guests got a little coconut cup and a flower for behind their ear. We also had a beach backdrop for pictures. I know that we have had a lot more formals with different themes. If you need more I can look into it.

Good luck!

Formal Ideas

What time of year were you thinking?

Here are a few ideas

Bronze Bull Ball -
You could decorate w/ all sorts of golden toned fabrics for the tables and chairs. Maybe your invitation could have a bovine hoof print on the front of a stiff card stock, in a bronze tone. You echo the same mark on the table cards. A stamp would work well.
(something like these)

You could even spray paint bronze little bulls that you can find in the cheap farm animals toys you can buy at walmart, and glue them to ribbon or napkin rings to make napkin holders.

You could decorate cookies in the shape of a bull and give them away as party favors.

Good Fortunes "Spring" Formal -
An Asian theme might be fun with chop-sticks, sushi, fortune cookies... and any other food you might like. There is really no limit to what you can do. You could get bamboo for table centers and the girls can take them home. I had a friend give me a lucky bamboo for a graduation gift and I love it.

A lot of restaurants can sell or give you the take-out Chinese food boxes that can be used to put favors in. http://store.yahoo.com/asianideas/mintakoutbox.html
It looks like you might be able to get them in green or yellow. White would work and you could add like a green or yellow ribbon.

Mad Bull Formal/ Mad Hatter Formal-
Think Alice In Wonderland. What ever you can think about from the movie can be used for decorating. You can make it really crazy with bold colors and patterns for the tables. As a fun thing… get all the girls to decorate a hat and have a contest to see who has the craziest “themed” hat.

Other ideas
Midnight Masquerade
Fishing under the Moonlight
Retro Formal- everyone dresses from a certain era. A 50’s sock hop for example lol

If I can think of something else I will post back

We had a cute theme one year....Fishing in the Dark...we had goldfish (the cracker you eat) on the tables, and gummy fish. At the end of the night each sister got a beta fish as a party favor

Thank you all for your wonderful ideas, I wrote them all down and will give them to the girl incharge. We have formal in november and sprng fling in april. Any more ideas are more than welcome!! Our spring fling theme last year was "just south of the border" and we had a Mexican theme. It was very cute. That's all I have for now, thanks again ladies!

At the Eta chapter, we had an annual "Bull Bash" in the spring.

I think a halloween masquerade sounds like fun though.

last semester, the Beta chapter's MCs put together a formal themed after the Titantic...the picture backdrop had lifevest and an inflatable raft and everyone's gifts included champagne glasses with some cute saying from the movie on each one.

Smile

For our most recent Spring Emerald Ball our theme was "Cinderella Fairytale". Every table had a pink wand and a pink basket with a princess shoe as the centerpiece. And lots of pink and silver decorations.

For our current Winter Semi-Formal our theme is "Vegas Nite". We will be setting up a couple tables for some fun card games. Lots of red and white decorations.
