US military can get face-lifts, boob jobs, liposuction and nose jobs for free

NEW YORK: The US army has long lured recruits with the slogan "Be All You Can Be", but now soldiers and their families can receive plastic surgery, including breast enlargements, on the taxpayers' dime.

The New Yorker magazine reports in its July 26th edition that members of all four branches of the US military can get face-lifts, breast enlargements, liposuction and nose jobs for free – something the military says helps surgeons practice their skills.

"Anyone wearing a uniform is eligible," Bob Lyons, chief of plastic surgery at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio told the magazine, which said soldiers needed the approval of their commanding officers to get the time off.

Between 2000 and 2003, military doctors performed 496 breast enlargements and 1361 liposuction surgeries on soldiers and their dependents, the magazine said.

The magazine quoted an Army spokeswoman as saying, "the surgeons have to have someone to practice on".

The fact that they do this does not bother me (surgeons are required to maintain a certain number of hours within a speciality for licensure).

What scares me more is this ............

Florida was one of the first states to stop covering GB for its employees. Considering Louisiana's problems with obesity, I support it.

One of my mom's good friends, who's in the military, got an augmentation. She didn't have to pay for the actual surgery, but she had to pay for the implants.

Hey, this is a great recruiting tool. Who needs the draft?

Yeah, J, I agree...

I remember having to go to the Army clinic on post when my step-dad was active military (he retired). That place is truly scary.

But, I think if it works as a recruiting tool and raises moral, then it's great. I think if people are putting their butts on the line for me, then they are entitled to a few perks. And, at least in the Army, people are away from their families SO much of the time lately. Why not do something nice for them?

Just my $.02!

No draft and we'll have the best looking army in the world. I don't know if they'll get much done, but they will be able to strike a pose.

I was about tosay...anyone who choses to let a military doctor perform that kind of surgeory on them is really desperate and I feel bad for them. I am not saying all military doctors are bad, but a plastic surgeon...hmmmmm I doubt many women take advantage of that.

I have a really good friend who got appendicitis while oversees in the amy and his scar goes from his throat all the way down his body and to one leg-for removing an appendics(sp??). His family is suing....

OMG, a military boob job-yikes!

I know of several women that have had the army pay for their boobs. While I haven't seen all of them, the ones I have viewed are ok. Much better looking under a shirt than when the shirt is off.
