Why are some many people interested in my interest?

So the title probably doesnt make sense, it is 2 am

But I want to know why people (greeks and non-greeks alike) are so interested in what sorority I'm going to pursue membership with. I am a junior, in very good academic standing but people aren't even being sly and trying to probe into the question, they just come straight out and ask which BGLO I'm gonna join and greek life isn't even big/strong on my campus.

Has this happened to any one else?

btw...Right now I havent shown only formal interested in any sorority because of financial responsibilities. Once I start the process, I will finish the process.

People must think you would be a good member, I wouldn't be offended by it.

i agree. As long as you remain humbled by it and not mistake it for an automatic "in" into XYZ.

unless you are a really good stepper or dancer, then the motives may be a little different (cue Stomp the Yard/You Got Served).

LOL.

Yea, Im cool it's just weird cause I've never had this happen before nor really know how to respond to it. So far I've just been putting different names out there (not just 1 org but multiple ones, like "it's between ABC and XYZ right now but I don't know I still need to do more research").

I'm not a great stepper/dancer and would not seek membership if they wanted me primary for those purposes. But I mos def know that I'm not an automatic "in". Everyone has to go through their process and earn membership.

I hope you know that our orgs are not about stepping/dancing despite what T.V. and movies portray. Also I would be careful about the sorority names that you just throw out. This could backfire. Instead, be discrete and just don't tell them anything or tell them that's it's your business.

Oh yes, I definitely know. I've done my research, the founders of these orgs were scholars, at the top of their class, and leaders on their campuses. That's why I want to join.

I've always been thinking about how throwing names out there could get me in a mess, esp. on this small campus. Best to stay quiet I guess.
