Wow. Did you really just give me that analogy and start it off with "I don't call you the 'N' word?"

You all ARE predominantly white greek lettered organizations whereas I am NOT the "N word."

NPHC organizations are predominantly black organizations whose founding purposes target a particular "community of people" (without completely excluding other individuals, goals, and communities).

Saying "predominantly white" doesn't mean that you all are exclusively white or that you all were founded for the white community (although, I have always argued that you all are "cultural organizations" just like the rest of us and your purposes and target audience are reflective of that).

There are certain phrases and terms that we all ask people to respectfully not use in reference to our organizations or organization-types. If it's the title of "predominantly white" that bothers you, even if the description fits, then that's fine. Don't expect for people to completely stop saying it and don't confuse it with a much more sensitive matter like calling someone the "N word."

If not, show Your Racism You -------.

There is a reason Greeks Look to all schools, it is for a reason and not to Break The Black Block of Bigots.

You had a very coherent post yesterday that shocked me because it was well-typed and I agreed with the points. Who is your speech writer?

There are entire chapters of a particular NPHC sorority where there are no black women. This does not change the FACT that this NPHC sorority is predominantly black (at the national level--since we aren't talking about locals) and this sorority was founded to target the interests of black women and the black community (target, but not at the price of discriminating against others).

I like Tri-Delta but I can think of about 4 other non-NPHC sororities that matter to me. Two being the Pi Beta Phis and Alpha Delta Pis (or Phis ). Always been cool.

This is interesting, can YOU QUOTE and give Links to said Chapters?

I am in an organization that I would refer to as predominately white, where as my chapter is not (it is majority hispanic) and I am one of the first Black women initiated into my chapter (from what I am told) and currently the only active Black member in my chapter.
When we go to conferences within our organization we are always the chapter that stands out culturally, we just do.

I personally don't take offense to the term predominately white greek letter organization in regards to my organization because it is predominately white. However, there are members of all races in my organization.

I do think it is strange to hear of a non NPHC at a predominately Black school, but I do see it as positive as long as they are bringing something new to the table.

That's my two cents.

edited for clarity

Unimportant detail.

Do you think that (let's say) 400 nonblack women out of an organization of thousands of black women makes it not predominately and predominantly black? Do people need to look "predominate" and "predominant" up in the dictionary?

I was web-surfing the other day and came across such a chapter. My eyebrow raised for a milli-second and then I kept surfing....

Would you mind giving an example? I'd love to see their website and check out their activities, not to mention I like looking at chapters of ANY GLO from other schools.

I'd google it, but I don't think anything would be produced from "NPHC chapter, no black women".

^^^ What an idiot.

ETA: You throw the "racist" and "racism" word around like it's going out of style. Any mention and discussion of race does not equate to "racism" or make someone a "racist." You're old enough to have done a great deal of observing your social world and reading up on such matters. If you were a racial or ethnic minority, the "oh no, here's the race card" crew would be all over you.
