You need to check with your Greek Life office or someone from your school about your chances of rushing as a Sophomore. This varies from school to school. Someone can tell you that they rushed as a Sophomore or Junior and had no problem but it doesn't mean anything unless they go to the school you go to. If you are willing to say your school then possibly someone on GC will know.

I think the best thing you can do is to present yourself as you. Don't dwell on the fact that you're a sophomore. Go ahead and say that you went to JC for a year and transferred, but talk about other things instead of just talking about how you only have 3 years left blah blah blah. Talk about what you've accomplished and present yourself as mature. It might be refreshing for them!

I won't claim to be an expert on Recruitment at large southern schools, since I went to a small Florida school (the South doesn't claim us, haha!). Being a sophomore might hurt a little bit, but hopefully it won't be the only thing the sororities base selection on. You're still YOU, just a year older.

ETA: DEFINITELY GET RECS! You will probably absolutely need them at a large southern school, regardless of your class standing.

To get the best answer to that question, I would contact the Greek Life office at your university, and ask how many transfers/sophomores receive bids in comparison with the number who go through the process. You'll be able to make a much more informed decision.

Some schools such as Bama have Sophomore quotas so being a year older wont hurt your chances much at all!
