No, the Southern Poly campus is home to many of the science and engineering programs. KSU runs a shuttle between the locations.

But the other two schools are an hour apart...like UAB and UA and Auburn and AUM. That's a little too far to be the same school....

Southern Poly is still open as a campus--the neighbor's son is there. Armstrong, in 2018, will be Ga Southern at Savannah and they are indeed an hour apart. I don't know how the Greeks will be affected but Armstrong is more of a commuter campus and not a rah-rah Greek school like Southern.

I can't recall if Armstrong ever added a third sorority but the first 2, Tri Sig and AST, aren't present at Southern.

Phi Mu is the third sorority that has chapters at both. The consolidation website says "The consolidated university will be named Georgia Southern University and will be led by President Jaimie L. Hebert." The changes won't officially take place until 2018, although Armstrong has already announced that they're discontinuing sports after this year because a lot of athletes have left already.

It's going to be one school, and my guess is the Armstrong chapters will close or in Phi Mu's case be folded in the way the Southern Poly chapter of AXiD was. The Georgia System has been big on mergers recently between schools that are close-ish in location, and I'm curious to see if this will be the last one between two four-year institutions.

Very familiar with Kennesaw's merger - those particular campuses are within 10 miles of each other - there were many, many work groups to determine how the merger would take place with recommendations made to the president. Due to the distance of the 2 campuses at Georgia Southern/Armstrong, it could realistically go either way - maintaining groups on the separate campuses or a folding in like AXiD was at KSU. Will be very interested to see what happens.

However, AXiD was allowed to immediately colonize a year or two ago. Instead of the old Iota Theta, they are now our Kappa Alpha chapter. The chapters who aren't present at GSU may be allowed the courtesy of colonizing. It makes no sense to absorb Phi Mu at Armstrong into Ga. Southern. Sisters would have to drive an hour to get to chapter meetings, do events, rush, etc. They should let them be chapters at the other campus.

That is exactly my thought and hope in terms of how everything shakes out. Just makes sense.

Not that these mergers have made tons of sense, but yes... that just makes sense.

Didn't see it listed, but this spring Lambda Chi recolonized our North Texas chapter, and opened 2 new colonies at Houston Baptist University and at Johnson & Wales-Providence.

I know the Southern Poly AXiDs were given the option to go alum or absorb into the new chapter. Some decided to stay and those who were on the verge of graduating anyway, went ahead and did the alum thing. That would be a shame if that's the only option for the Armstrong Phi Mus.

Just for clarity, KSU and Southern Poly Gamma Phi merged to become one chapter, with KSUs chapter designation. KSU Alpha Xi was a ground up colonization, with the SPSU girls having the opportunity to join. SPSU was Iota Theta chapter, KSU is Kappa Alpha. There were reasons for this but SPSU had chapter sizes around 30 and KSU was around 150ish.

This is from a prior stack in 2014, correct?
