How long is the "pledge process"?

How long does it last? At my school, it is 6 weeks. Is this set for all chapters or is it different for each one?

6 weeks seems like such a short amount of time. Many of the other sororities on campus have a pledge process that runs for 10 to 13 weeks.

Thanks so much.

Every sorority mandates different lengths for the New Member period.

Some are 6 weeks, some 8 or 10. It just depends.

Sorry, I guess I'm a bit confused by the terminology. When you say "sorority" do you mean nationally or a specific chapter?

Nationally. Generally speaking, the National Headquarters of the sorority mandates how long our NM periods can be.

Alpha Phi call this time the new member period not pledge.

I do not think 6 weeks is too short, remember you are a sister for life and the new member period is only the beginning of a lifetime of sisterhood.

My mistake on miscalling it.
I just feel as though 6 weeks doesn't give enough time to get to know a lot of the girls well enough. ESPECIALLY when it comes to deciding for Bigs/Littles.

Working with the 6 weeks new member program for years, I disagree. I've found that our members usually have a good idea of the women they'd prefer to be their bigs pretty quickly. And not usually the entire chapter is available to be a big every semester, so it's not like the entire membership is being considered. Also, while a big/little relationship is important, it's not the end all be all, you can have great relationships with other older members in the chapter regardless.

This is also not specific to Alpha Phi. Many other groups also have a 6 week new member program, and many campuses require the nm period be no longer than that length.

So, then it IS possible for the new member program to be longer than 6 weeks. Interesting.
