I've been through the entire Yale archives and there were no groups there that used this motto.
I believe it to be from some sort of literary or fraternal society. I'm wondering if its not Masonic in nature or odd fellows, as that would explain the chain circle.
It's a nice piece. I was thinking it to be more from the late 1700s even.

Our VERY early pin had ruffles on the clasped hands; I was wondering about the ruffles myself!

If you see examples of the earliest Phi Beta Kappa keys, often times the hand on it had ruffles.....
The ruffles from what I've seen on other pins was indicative of the 1700s style. This pin could also be from one of the English colleges as well.

I got a beautiful Alpha Phi badge from eBay today. As soon as I took it out of the box, I thought it seemed smaller than my original badge from the early 1990's. When I compared them, I was correct. The older one was smaller and seems more delicate. Do older badges tend to be this way? (I can't wait for church tomorrow. I've wanted a jeweled badge since college!)

Some of the older badges are smaller because they are 14k. Many of the badges after 1970 switched to 10k.
I have seen a stunning rose gold badge that was smaller from about 1950

I'm at convention and got the most amazing badge! It's from Delta chapter at Tufts in 1904. It is absolutely the most delicate thing I have ever seen. Due to my excellent education in all things hinges and clasps thanks to GC Badge Trends, I recognized this find and snatched it up! Picks to come later.

See? The back of the badge is every bit as important as the front! Congratulations on your find.

Exactly! I thought of you. Without being able to look too closely at the front, there aren't enough details to distinguish it's age. After looking at it longer, there are tell tale signs, a cabochon ruby, diminutive size, rose gold, seed pearls. The back told the story in seconds.
ETA: Thanks! I get to wear it for opening ritual today.

Your picture needs to be uploaded/saved somewhere on the web. I usually use ImageShack, but there are other sites where you can upload your picture.
Once you've got the picture on the web, copy the URL, click this button in the message window, insert the URL (make sure to remove the default "http://" -- I usually highlight it and paste over it), then click okay.
Alternatively, you can surround the URL with [ IMG ] and [ /IMG ] (removing the spaces, of course).

Good Morning, M.I.
Someone taught me recently so pay it forward! When preparing your post, look in the posting toolbar immediately above the text window. click on the second icon from the right (or seventh icon from the left,) it looks like a photo of a mountain with a yellow sky and sun. This should produce a popup window that tells you to paste your image URL in the highlighted box.

Your image URL should be preceded by some HTML commends: a [ IMG ] and followed by a [ / IMG ]. Note that I've placed spaces to disable the commands in the previous sentence. And coolest thing is that this function will allow you to post GIFs! Like so.

Here are the pictures of my new, rescued badge. It's from 1973, so not that old, but something I think is sort of cool, is that it's from our Delta Tau chapter at LSU, which is recolonizing this year. By the way, thanks so much MysticCat and MaryPoppins for giving instructions on adding pictures.

^^^ It's beautiful! Thanks for sharing. We're still waiting on AOII Angel's photos, but she's at Convention, so she has an excused absence.
