When those are considered interesting or remotely "skill based" as far as random people are concerned, you might see them.
Over the past years, stepping is less viewed by mainstream as a "Greek event" and more a form of entertainment that anyone can participate in (regardless if they can actually step or not).
I wouldn't watch a televised competition but I guess this isn't too crazy if those cheerleader competitions are aired. I love watching cheerleader competitions so maybe I can love watching these stepshows. I'll have to watch it from a noncritical and more mainstream POV, I guess.

Remember that the real name of ESPN is the Entertainment, Sports Programming Network.
We can leave it at that.
However, I think it might be fun to watch a step show on TV.

When it comes to determining a national champion without a playoff system, of course objectivity will be compromised. I'm huge fan of Boise State myself. Just for the blue field and the kick-ass record.
If MTV did a show about any real national fraternity, it would make huge news. At first I thought it would be cool if MTV did a series about my chapter, but then I realized that they would try to make it look like something goes wrong every week. Like, if I'm arguing with my girlfriend over the phone, they will splice it with a phone conversation with another brother to make it look like a whole lot of drama is going down. Then they would film me about to take a nap while blasting REM's "Everybody Hurts". Or they would show someone tired, or frowning at step practice to make it look like there is major dissension amongst our ranks. MTV seems like they would intensify nonexistent problems just to boost ratings.
ESPN would, at the most, make some of the rivalries look like century old feuds about who could play kickball better. But they would probably highlight other aspects of the organizations as well as the schools. At least that's what I see when I watch college sports on there.

ESPN2 stepshow
The show IS happening!
I stepped in it and it will air Sat. Dec. 16th at 7pm. It's two hours long.
We, the Phi Beta Sigma UnKNOWn Stepteam(Army Sponsored), stepped exhibition as the sponsored team. The Competion was won by Phi Beta Sigma from New Jersey, and Zeta Phi Beta from Philly.
Watch it... It was good!

It's funny how these hit and run posters go through all the trouble of registration and validation and such just to tell everybody to watch.
I'm assuming most people will be out and about Saturday evening at 7pm.

AKA's performance was good! Zetas won, I felt they deserved to win....
that kid used in the Omega Psi Phi performance was tossed around and sat on! I thought he was going to fall off the stage when he ran towards the edge

I saw the show today, and there were some very good teams. The Sigmas and Zetas took home 1st, but all of the groups did a very good job. The only two groups who I did not see perform were Alpha Phi Alpha and Alpha Kappa Alpha. I'm not sure if this is becasue I tuned in late (7:07, so I doubt it), or if those two performances were cut. I can't call it, but the rest of the show was decent.
Also, saw a couple of previews for Stomp the Yard. I'm torn.
ETA: From the comments in the GL forum, I must have simply missed the Alphas and AKAs. Dangit!

I didn't like it. The documentary part was GREAT. The camera angles and editing on the performances were all wrong.
I expected this to be filmed how they film cheerleader competitions, with maybe three cameras, NOT SEVENTEEN MILLION! Too many transitions were missed and you didn't get the sense of uniformity.
And Keshia Knight Pulliam's voice is worse that the sound of cats having sex.

I watched it but they didn't show the AKAs nor the Alphas....
The Zetas and Sigmas kicked it hard and deserved to win
