Sisterhood

Sorors and Sisterfriends,

I will soon be talking to a group of highschool ladies about sisterhood. So I was just curious what does sisterhood mean to you?

Sisterfriend,

I was at a loss of words so I turned to Google. I found two sites that may be inspiring.

First Soror, points to you for posting something that has Phil at a loss. lol.

Of course, sisterhood is about many things; here is one angle:

Being a big sister right now is about taking a step back and letting my little sister stumble and find her own way. I want to help, but I know that she wants and needs to do things her own way. So right now, a lot of what it means is being a cheerleader when she needs one and celebrating in her triumphs when they come.

There is a stories of sisterhood in the main forum, you might check that out too.

This is such a broad question, it's kind of hard to answer. But this thread should help

First thing that comes to mind is trust. With my sorors and with my sister soror trust is the utmost important factor in out relationships.

This is a really great question! My mom has 3 daughters, but I have 5 sisters (3 of them are my closest girlfriends). A sister is someone who shares important life experiences with you. They may not even be important to you at the time but later in life, the memories mean everything. A sister is someone who you can trust with things that are important to you (informational or tangible things) and know that they are safe.

For me, sisterhood is first and foremost about self-love and respect.

If those things are not in place, you can not build a solid sisterhood. I think the thing that tears sisters and sorors apart is our own insecurities, doubts and anxieties which keep us from supporting our sisters.

Beyond self-love and respect, sisterhood is about supporting one another, offering a kind word or even constructive criticism, being open and honest with each other. For younger girls, this is more of a challenge because media (i.e. reality shows, music videos, some movies) openly promote hostility between women. The onslaught of the competitive, conniving woman willing to sacrafice her sisterhood for a man's attention is probably the biggest threat facing young women in developing both a positive self-esteem and strong bonds with other young women.

Smile

While I admire the supportive information from everyone to seek information on what Sisterhood personally means to each person, I think that this thread on the AKA Ave. on GC has run its course.

So, due to my moderator duties, I am locking it.

Anyone can do a search on this site and find whatever meaning they want from anyone's post.

Happy Discourse!

Respectfully,

Dr. AKA_Monet
