Just Elected Philanthropy Chair
Hey everyone, my name is Matt and I've just been elected for philanthropy chair for Theta Chi at Ohio State. Theta Chi used to be a really big fraternity here at OSU in the past but fell apart in the late 90's. We are just now in the process of reviving the fraternity and we have just built up enough members to charter officially this upcoming spring. Since we are "new" there haven't really been any previous connections with places for community service, and I'm kind of starting from scratch. I have three of my brothers on the committee with me and I was just wondering what a good starting point is? How do I start looking for organizations to help out and raise money for? I just want some ideas so that I can present them to my president and see what the guys think. Thanks for your help!

I'll be head chair from now until next spring unless I get re-elected.

Congrats on getting elected! I was just recently elected philanthropy chair for my sorority as well and have been looking for events to get us ready for next year. Good luck with everything!

Senusret I, I'm also a philanthropy chairman and in need of help. What were some of your ideas?

Well, this is what I suggest: If your fraternity offers a philanthropy award, just base your philanthropy program based on whatever it takes to win the award. I know it sounds silly, but it works. I am not familiar with LCA's national awards, but I am sure there is some sort of document you can look at for guidance. Good luck!

Does your nationals have a philanthropy they want you to participate in? If so, do something related to it, but if not, you can do pretty much anything. You could start out doing a drive for something. Last week, we collected word searches/crossword puzzles for a local nursing home. We had over 400 in two weeks, and then we visited the nursing home, played guitar and sang with them, and handed out the word finds. It was great, and that can be a regular thing for sure. It will also get your name out there if you do some PR.
