Rushing

My father's name was on the charter of a fraternity at a different school. Would this help my chances in getting into that fraternity at my school. Thanks

It depends. Different fraternities have different policies concerning the acceptance of legacies, and none that I have heard of ever give an absolute guarantee of a bid to anyone. If you want to join a particular organization, it can help, but ultimately your personality, involvement, etc. are more important.

I doubt that being the son of a charter member makes you any different than any other legacy, so listen to SouthernTKE, and also read around the Fraternity Recruitment portion of this website to get some more tips and advice.

Something else you can do is ask you father about his fraternity's legacy policy. See if there is a form he can fill out that lets the chapter know you're on campus and a legacy. My fraternity has one online that we can fill out and submit to chapters - I never saw one in all my years as an undergrad, and let me tell you I really would have appreciated it if an alumnus took the time to let us know about his son/brother/nephew/whatever before rush.
