Misspelled----AGAIN??

Oftentimes, with all of our experiences, knowledge, and intellect, we come across words (often simple) that we have ALWAYS had trouble spelling.

Is it just me or does anyone else know where I'm coming from? For example some words that I've often had to double check are (and please don't laugh):

1.minute
2.conscious (I'm not sure if I spelled it right THIS time)

3.tomorrow
4.February

Can anyone name some words that they have had issues with (past or present)? Don't worry, I won't laugh or criticize.

LOL...yes, I always had a problem with:
1. Excercise (exercise) because of the "x" sound
2. Congradulations (congratulations)
3. equiptment (equipment)
4. conscientious (or whatever...I am not going to try to correct now, haha.)

My spelling has its moments since I have began teaching thanks to some of the NONSPELLERS God has blessed me with.

Every time I have to write believe, receive, conceive, and all other ie, ei combination words, I have to recite to myself "i before e except after c". It makes me feel like a kindegardner

I also have trouble deciding when to use effect or affect in certain sentences. Frustrates me ALL the time!

Me too!! I'm glad I'm not the only one. I think it should just one of those interchangeable words with a dual meaning.. really, can we pick just one spelling??

But I always have trouble with "possession" (is that right??) I used to struggle with "independent" vs. "independant" all the time but I think I finally got it.

Posess, obsess (ahgunfunnitidontcareifididntgetitright!), occasion, W-E-D-N-E-S-D-A-Y, genius (how ironic!), curiosity, naivete, and sovreign are some of the words that put my spell check to work.

Soror, ME TOO! I always have to catch myself on this. "i" before "e", except after "c" ...

I also seem to have a mental block when it comes to 'attached' because I normally write 'attatched' and 'personnel' when I write 'personell'. DUH!

I normally am a good speller and I recognize that people have mental blocks, BUT it irks me to no end when people don't PROOFREAD!

Okay Ladies, I'm back and I thought of a few more words. Gosh this is like RELAXING, RELATING, and RELEASING!!

1. stomache (or is it stomach?)
2. spaghetti (now this is a GOOD one)

3. responsibility (I always haveto check)
4. interest
5. Adding "ing" to certain words (ones that you haveto take the "e" off of).

I never considered myself to be a bad speller, but, Lord knows, I DO have my days. I've always been critical of my writing (papers, letters, documents for work, applications, etc). So it's like I go, most of the time, the extra mile to make sure that my spelling is correct. I just have this thing about the possibility of being deemed ignorant because of a mere misspelled word. So please remember this whenever you see anyone misspell something or leave out a word when posting. But anyhow keep the responses coming. It's good to know that the many of us have this minor defict, yet significant (there goes ANOTHER word)in common

I feel you on all those words. I especially have doubts about minute and Febuary. In fact, it has gotten so bad I always abbreviate (sp) them as min. and Feb. Isn't that a shame. I think Microsoft Word as ruined people in my generation with spell check.

As skilled a writer as I am (I'm a Communication major who writes all the publications for my office), my trouble spots are still:

Massachusetts
Connecticut
Cincinnati
broccoli
vacuum
tomorrow
necessary
restaurant
grateful
fascinate
segue (seg-way)
gray vs. grey
cream vs. creme
message vs. massage
lay vs. lie (that's more a grammatical issue than a spelling one)

Sometimes I feel like I need some "Hooked on Phonics" flash cards when I'm writing those words (and I'll probably have to edit this message to correct something)!

It's sooo good to know that I am not alone in this.

CrimsonRage: PRIVILEDGE (I think) has always been a hard one for me too.

I also have a problem with thinking faster than I type, so I'm always leaving a word (or 2) out.
