Kappa Random
It's about darn time we had a random thread!
I couldn't find one...so here it is!
My randomness: modcloth.com has so many cute owl things! I found a bunch in the accessory section.

This year at Greek Week, we had a dessert competition for all the sororities. The Kappa cakes were INCREDIBLE. One of our sisters attended professional cake decorating boot camp and is an amazing baker. Unfortunately the pics aren't great because it was raining and the cakes had to stay covered... but one is a 3-D owl sitting in an edible nest, and the other is a 5-foot-long replica of our badge.
They were too good not to share!

And in the spirit of Panhellenic love, Phi Mu's quatrefoil cake was pretty cute, too:

Those are so cool! My cousin is really into cake decorating, and my mom used to be. She has a bunch of cool tins. Did I show you guys this picture of my birthday cake? Ok, I looked and looked and looked but couldn't find it!
So here's a pic of the cake we did for my mom's b-day. It's a mermaid!

I suddenly want an oversized hoodie. Except mine is regular sized. Even though I'm 4 years out of college with no real reason to buy another Kappa sweatshirt, I'm tempted. But hey, I've never had one with just letters on it...

When does the 2009 ornament come out?
Does anyone else think The Key Source ( www.buykappa.com) needs a major update and/or facelift?

^^ Ugh, yes! I have bought a few things from the Key, but the website causes me pain. I bought a really cute sweatshirt once, but I called and custom ordered it. It's white with pink argyle letters.

Holy crap that is awesome. Then again as we saw a mascot, I might be a little bit biased.

The Key Source could use some improvement, but I am glad we have it. I was surprised to see past ornaments on there and thought "great, I'll buy the 2002 ornament for my initiation year!" only to see that you have to purchase one and hope they someday make another batch? Thought that was odd.
So continuing the spirit of Kappa random... tonight I'm giving a Toastmasters speech on the founding of GLOs (basically how men's groups were in reaction to the American Revolution and pursuit of freedom/improvement, and women's were in reaction to the women's movement & Civil War in pursuit of equality). I did a research paper on it in college focusing on Pi Phi and Kappa, since variables are roughly kept in check by being established at the same school. Anyway... I wore my badge today for the speech, and I was adjusting it in the bathroom at work. A woman I've never met saw it and asked if it was a sorority pin, and said her daughters are in DZ and DG. It was so cool and a great mid-afternoon mind break! I have yet to encounter a Kappa this way, but I'm bound to run into one at some point. Oh, I also found out that one of my coworkers is a Sigma Kappa this morning. I had no idea and it spawned a great chat.

Lurking keepers......there is a NM pin and a '04 badge on ebay just begging to be rescued!
How did a NM pin end up on ebay?

^^ it probably didn't get returned when it was supposed to and no one ever hunted them down. That's my best guess.

That's generally what happens. And to be honest, this is most likely a member selling her own pin.
